That's okay. He was just experiencing "real life."

Or, is it: "It was tolerated in that culture at the time"?

Whatever it was. Webb isn't responsible for any of it.

Sorry, you can't make Cosmos Club membership scandalous; it's a high honor here in Washington, and several members of the current administration and other Republican office holders have belonged, themselves. They have certainly accepted black members for at least thirty years, at least since John Walker became Bishop of Washington, and women have been admitted since 1988, as you pointed out.

That dog, as the saying goes, won't hunt.
