The forces of radical Islam are getting very bold in Malaysia; an American couple was subjected to a humiliating, terrifying 2 am khalwat inspection by religious enforcement officers:
Retired American policeman Randal Barnhart, who was subjected to a 2am raid by religious enforcement officers, is reconsidering his plan to make Malaysia his second home.
After that unpleasant episode two weeks ago, I do not feel like making Malaysia my second home. It is a pity because both my wife and I really love Langkawi, he said.
On Oct 12, Barnhart, 62, and his wife Carole, 61, were in their rented condominium in Kuah when enforcement officers continuously knocked on their door at 2am, accusing them of committing khalwat (close proximity).
He said the officers demanded to see his marriage certificate, although he had told them that they were Christians and should not be subjected to Islamic law.
We find it difficult to forget the unpleasant episode. My wife was so terrified by the incident that she fears sleeping in that condominium, he added.
Banhart said the officers were rude and insisted on seeing the woman when he opened the door. My wife had to show herself despite only having a sarong on at that time. We felt humiliated for being treated this way, he said.
He said he had to send his wife back to the United States on the next available flight because she feared people might return to the condominium to terrify her in the middle of the night.
She flew home on Wednesday.
I want the religious department to apologise to me and my wife in writing,

This is really strange. Langkawi is a resort island, similar to Phuket in Thailand. I was there in '94 for a few days. Incidents like this will dry up the tourist trade real fast.
Breaking into hotel rooms at 2 am to check for proper papers does not seem the best idea for repeat tourism business.
at the minimum
How many married couples carry their marriage documents on a vacation ?
Is it illegal to take a girl friend on a vacation ?
Barbara needs to hire a fashion consultant before she goes out in public.
Pity he couldn't greet them under "Texas law".

It is not. Certainly not by US law. But we're not talking about law. We're talking about mob rule.
This poster has recently stopped even learning about Islamic countries. I love to travel, and had planned to visit Malaysia, Indonesia, and a couple places in North Africa, but I'm coming to the conclusion it's just not worth the trouble. Not only are islamic countries becoming more and more hostile, there's no sense in raising the attentions of the guys back wherever stateside, who pay attention to where one travels.
I will not even bother to learn more about them. May soon toss my lonely planet books for several countries, in the trash.
The future will bring more, not less, of such things. Eventually things will escalate to a final, awful conflagration.
If we wait too long before recognizing that - nobody will survive that eventual conflagration.
It seems more and more, western complacancy is leading inevitably to World War III, and the final days.
It's amazing our leaders seem utterly blind to that eventuality.
They used to seem logical.
Couples travel to Kuala Lampur (sp?) all the time and don't have their marriage licsenses checked. What give?

even old europe is under attack by the " youths "
An average of 112 cars a day have been torched across France so far this year and there have been 15 attacks a day on police and emergency services.
Nearly 3,000 police officers have been injured in clashes this year.

LOL!! Don't hold your breath, pal.
Unbelievable people are still this clueless about what we are facing.
"It's time we recognized the nature of the conflict. It's total war and we are all involved. Nobody on our side is exempted because of age, gender, or handicap. The Islamofacists have stolen childhood from the world." [FReeper Retief]
"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." - Manuel II Paleologus - as quoted by Pope Benedict XVI
You don't work for a semiconductor company. Probably 80% of the worlds microchips are encapsulated in their package in Malaysia or Thailand. If you are a Japanese or Korean or American or European semiconductor company, you need to have a couple of people in these countries and singapore.
But these folks sound like early reitrees sailing the world.....so that's a bit different, eh!
The retired couple ?
the majority of the chinese are also the most well-educated and responsible for a great deal of malaysia's well and any advancements. malaysia is regressing at a terrible rate with heavy focus on the malay language instead of english, which is what's responsible for the country languishing while it's chinese population and singapore are advancing into the next half of the century. i have a cousin who is an elementary school teacher in the state of malacca. she's half Malacca-Eurasian and half chinese. her english is ATROCIOUS. there's so much emphasis on malaysia's ethnic malay identity and islam by the government. even the catholic schools in portuguese malacca have had to drop it's 'christian' names, such as 'holy infant jesus convent' is now something like insert 'street name' school. friends and cousins who holiday there during ramadan and other muslim holiday periods have to be careful and sure that they have their IDs (which state their religions) and wear their crosses so as not to be mistaken for malays engaged in 'sinful' activity...such as EATING (at the wrong time), eating PORK, imbibing, or associating with the opposite sex (esp if unmarried).
malaysia is a beautiful country, but it is night & day when compared to singapore. the religious nutters are getting worse with every pandering politician they put in office. while there's much i disagree with where singapore's governing style is concerned, i'd rather pack my bags to live there than in malaysia, no matter how beautiful it is, no matter that my maternal heritage is firmly footed in historic malacca. btw, they adorn themselves with 22k gold because it's easily pawned and worth a great deal. try selling gemstone jewelry to a pawn shop owner...he'll usually scoff. try selling him crap american 14k - he'll laugh you right out of the store!!
Not learning english will hurt themselves in the international markets.
Not just alot of tourism but also business is often conducted in english.
