Airbus announces unmanned A-400

The European Airbus Consortium announced to day it will release the first totally unmanned commercial aircraft. The new A-400 will taxi, take-off, fly the route and land itself, all without human interaction.

They also announced there will be no flight attendants, just a vast assembly of coin operated food dispensing devices.

Airbus executives say they decided to go ahead with this controversial aircraft when it became apparent no rational pilots or flight attendants would accept assignments on the recent fly-by-wire aircraft.

No airline with any business sense would buy it - so Airbus will lose the Southwest sale and no others.

the technology is there, it can and has been done.

But nobody would buy a ticket.

The assumption that the pilots dont want to die either is part of the trust that sells tickets on anything. Even a bus. I dont know about taxi drivers though. I think half those guys want to die.

Obviously, the author was confused. It isn't an automated aircraft, the crew is unmanned -- i.e. it will be staffed by a crew of European Sitzpinklers.

No, it's fake. The real A400 is a C-130 wannabe.

Airbus 400 Tractor. Passengers are towed in a three mile long tow rope, each passenger in their own lifting body pod( Two passenger per pod in economy, 69 position). The passenger tow rope encases supply tubes for passenger pod pressurization, entertainment, water and waste removal.

This is actually not unexpected.

A plane without pilots fits nicely with the Aircraft Carrier without a propeller. Those french..always on the cutting edge. :)

See the movie "Wargames" circa 1977 for another humorous look at 'taking humans out of the loop.'

To be completely unmanned the aircraft will also have to carry no passengers. Who ever heard of an Airbus that didn't carry any passengers?

Oh, wait, I forgot. They already got that one.
