Former Gov. James McGreevey, who resigned after acknowledging a gay affair, said he would tie the knot with his partner if state lawmakers decide to allow gay marriage.
"Marriage would offer the ability to bless our relationship in a committed way," McGreevey, 49, told The New York Times.
McGreevey's comments followed a state Supreme Court ruling Wednesday that same-sex couples must be given the same rights as married people. The court left it up to the Legislature to decide whether to extend those rights under the structure of marriage or something else.
Some gay-rights advocates said the decision didn't go far enough. McGreevey, who told The Associated Press last month that he had publicly opposed gay marriage while in office as a way to keep his homosexuality hidden, hailed the ruling.
"I applaud the court's courage," McGreevey told the AP. "I regret not having had the fortitude to embrace this right during my tenure as governor."
The former governor stepped down in 2004 after announcing he was gay.
McGreevey now lives with Mark O'Donnell, a 43-year-old Australian businessman. Before they could marry, the former governor would have to finalize his divorce from his second wife.
I don't know. I did a Google search, but couldn't find anything.
Helen Thomas, Hillary, Janet Reno and Donna Shalala probably go to the "Pleasure Chest" in the Village to get all their "toys".

I thought the correct term was "life partner"? Get with it, sgt.
This almost reads like a page from Jim McGreevey's autobiography. And, he's a Democrat!
I read this as: "Marriage would force all of you to approve of me. You must approve of me!"
saying "McGreevy resigned after announcing a gay affair" leaves out quite a bit .. such as his appointing one of his love interests to the head of NJ's homeland security office, a role for which said swain was totally unqualified. IF I lived in NJ, that would have bothered me a whole lot more.
Well, we can't let her win. The voters ALL OVER THE COUNTRY must learn about her "evolving stand" on gay marriage.
I agree and I say this from the depths of upper NY state where she reigns supreme over me even now. (sigh)
Doubly ironic because he was married to a woman while doing the nasty with his male lover.
Marriage can't "bless" anything, creep. Marriage of the faithful is blessed by God.
Yours is a Godless partnership that will be blessed by no one except other deviants and the left-stream media. It will eventually fail when your significant other wanders off to seek newer thrills and someone richer to leech from.

Think about that sentence for a moment. Another one of those fake but accurate statements.
Sorry, Jim, nothing on this earth or under God will ever bless your relationship!

And McGreevy's daddy is out campaigning for Menendez, the badabing candidate.
McG was an unindicted co conspirator in a corruption case.
McGreevy has TWO former wives and TWO daughters.

When I first heard about the "homosexual, underage, incest" angle, I thought that the described behavior happened in some back room behind closed doors that added nothing to the story. Now it seems that the described conduct in the novel was done outdoors by a Vietnamese villager out in the boondocks.
This is a Vietnam war novel, James Webb is a highly decorated Vietnam combat veteran, with the Navy Cross, the Silver Star and two Bronze Stars, and you do see some pretty weird customs in rural areas sometimes in foreign cultures. Nowadays, you don't even have to leave an American major city to see some pretty weird stuff in public.
I was not in Vietnam. James Webb was.
Before jumping into the "he writes homosexual, undeage incest" bandwagon, shouldn't we be trying to find out if such a "greeting" was a rural Vietnamese custom that Webb might have actually witnessed in the 1960's?
****************
The Navy Cross is presented to James H. Webb, Jr., First Lieutenant, U.S. Marine Corps, for extraordinary heroism while serving as a Platoon Commander with Company D, First Battalion, Fifth Marines, First Marine Division (Reinforced), Fleet Marine Force, in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On 10 July 1969, while participating in a company-sized search and destroy operation deep in hostile territory, First Lieutenant Webb's platoon discovered a well-camouflaged bunker complex which appeared to be unoccupied. Deploying his men into defensive positions, First Lieutenant Webb was advancing to the first bunker when three enemy soldiers armed with hand grenades jumped out. Reacting instantly, he grabbed the closest man and, brandishing his .45 caliber pistol at the others, apprehended all three of the soldiers. Accompanied by one of his men, he then approached the second bunker and called for the enemy to surrender. When the hostile soldiers failed to answer him and threw a grenade which detonated dangerously close to him, First Lieutenant Webb detonated a claymore mine in the bunker aperture, accounting for two enemy casualties and disclosing the entrance to a tunnel. Despite the smoke and debris from the explosion and the possibility of enemy soldiers hiding in the tunnel, he then conducted a thorough search which yielded several items of equipment and numerous documents containing valuable intelligence data. Continuing the assault, he approached a third bunker and was preparing to fire into it when the enemy threw another grenade. Observing the grenade land dangerously close to his companion, First Lieutenant Webb simultaneously fired his weapon at the enemy, pushed the Marine away from the grenade, and shielded him from the explosion with his own body. Although sustaining painful fragmentation wounds from the explosion, he managed to throw a grenade into the aperture and completely destroy the remaining bunker. By his courage, aggressive leadership, and selfless devotion to duty, First Lieutenant Webb upheld the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service."
