Graphic Sexual Content in Webb's Novels Questioned
WTOP ^ | 10/27/07

WASHINGTON - Several conservative web sites are reporting a potentially explosive development in the campaign for the Virginia Senate seat.

Sites, including The Drudge Report, have pointed out several sexually graphic excerpts found in some of Webb's novels, including "Lost Soldiers." The sites are raising concerns about Webb's own character and his attitude toward women.

Drudge claims the information came from a news release, as provided by George Allen's campaign. WTOP has not been able to independently verify that the Allen camp sent the release.

Webb joins WTOP's Mark Plotkin this morning at 10 a.m. on the Politic's Program on Washington Post Radio at 107.7 FM and 1500 AM.

A co worker of mine who was in the military told me about this woman he met who got off to oranges being thrown at her back. He actually did it to her. I thought this was a great idea to use in a novel sometime but I am not running for the senate.

I have several friends in Virginia. Most usually vote Democrat but I don't believe any of them will approve of Webb after this story gets out. If any of them do then I assure you that I won't be visiting them again.

Your friends might not know about this story if newspapers don't cover it.

Hey, I'm not that into this particular race. I've only read a little about Webb and heard him on the radio once and I wasn't all that impressed, but George Allen isn't exactly a favorite of mine from what I've seen of him, either. The only reason I'd pick Allen over Webb if I was voting in this race is the issues.

I even realize that I might not be interpreting Webb's writing correctly, but I just can't think of any other reason for the inclusion of the passage in question.

I think I'm just having a hard time putting what I feel into these few words and you are probably misunderstanding me somewhat as a result. Anyway, this discussion between us has been good because we should never forget what our soldiers go through mentally, as well as physically.

How does one portray an incestuous homosexual pedophile without being vulgar or offensive?

Why would someone put incestuous homosexual pedophile behavior in a WAR NOVEL unless someone in his personal life actually obsessed about men doing such things to naked little boys...

I said that moral people who "dream up this stuff" do not write about it in graphic detail for public consumption.

especially if they want to be a U.S. senator...

Surely the voters of Virginia should be informed of what's knocking around inside Webb's mind?

Let's see how many days it takes for newspapers to carry the story.

Because it was somehow germane to the story he wanted to tell, or the dramatic tension he wanted to create. You, and others, would have us believe it's because Webb is a closet incestuous homosexual pedophile himself, or would gladly have a few of them over to his house for dinner and drinks several times per week.

That sounds logical.

Ummm, not that I support him, but they're NOVELS.

A Tale of Two Cities is a novel. Conspicuously absent from it are any depictions of a character fellating his preteen son.

That sounds logical.

You're shameless, and so are the others who are doing their best to promote this dog that simply won't hunt. If you're dying to smear Webb, why not use the NON-fiction he's written (or spoken) about women at the Naval Academy and women in combat?

Have fun wallowing around in the gutter with all the other political sh*t-flingers, friend.

You look though enough of the literature and you will find some rather stranger stuff. Check the Pardoner's Tale in Canterbury Tales.

Thank you for telling me what Webb himself has asserted -- about his book being "used" in college English classes.

When the Lib-Fascistas took over the colleges and university systems throughout America, they first penetrated the system through "psychology" courses, and then rapidly took over the English Departments.

They met resistance when the English Departments attempted to take over the Math and Science Departments.

And sick minds instead of thinking to move to Vietnam or Malaysia or the Phillipines in order to have the "cultural" right to place their son's penises into their own mouths have decided... "why move"? We can do that here in America as long as the Feminists continue their rant about "males being evil", multi-culturalists continue to rewrite history and the need for borders, gay/les/trans can hide behind a "normal picture" of pedophilia such as the Vagina Monologues -- and do so incrementally, calling it all "intellectual exercises".

"Why move?" they say to themselves. "Why move when we can encourage young minds to do all the work of "cultural change" for us."

Did Webb happen to inform as to whether or not his books are used in PRE-REQ courses?

Out in CA, the libbies running "edukashion" keep upping the pre-reqs for students, incrementally demanding more "multi-course" agenda courses. Like the crooning fascistas they are.. they tell students they need to become "sensitized" to the Liberal Fascistic frame of mind.

Deception.

And parents have to pay for this deception while the Fascista assert that parents have no "rights" to say-so, disagreement, or anything. But a Dad placing his son's penis in his own mouth -- is OKAY, and a "right", according the Fascista handbook.

Teachers sexually seducing young men and young women.. is OKAY in the Fascista Handbook.

Is it porn? Or is it shockingly disgusting? I haven't read of anyone on FR describe it as anything other than disgusting. Maybe you had a different reaction.

I tend to agree with your take on this. I thought Allen was ahead and would win handily before this was introduced on the Drudgereport. That Bubba and Hillary gave Webb the kiss of death was enough to ensure Allen's victory. And I'm not interested in hearing the MSM analyze this stuff on television. I don't want my children reading it here, and I don't want them hearing it read on television. I doubt Webb's intention was for it to be discussed before audiences which might contain children.

When this first hit the net yesterday, my son walked into the room, and I had to kill the page. I don't want this all over the airwaves.

Just found it: YES, his books are in "REQUIRED" College English courses in colleges.

the novels "that the Allen camp attacks include Fields of Fire, which has been called the classic novel of the Vietnam War and was for years required reading on college campuses nationwide in classes relating to the illumination of war."

Maybe those Fenton Production "soldiers" lamenting the WOT are only saying: "Eeewww. We don't wanna see that stuff that Webb Saw".

(ewgrin)

Check the Pardoner's Tale in Canterbury Tales.

I remember a good amount of off-color stuff from the parts of the Canterbury Tales that I read... but then, Chaucer isn't running for Senate. If he was, it'd be perfectly appropriate to use those writings to assess what sort of man he was.

Fields of Fire is being taught in a college course that husband took a few years ago. I could take the course right now, but I don't want to read five Vietnam war novels. Husband thought the book was good.

Did you take your FR-name from a Patricia Cornwell novel?
