Superhero day in High School?

Lucky they didn't show up as GWB's....they would have been expelled or executed.

I dont have any young kids , so I guess I never heard of Captain Underpants. However if there is a legitimate superhero cartoon starring Captain Underpants they should have been allowed to dress that way.

I got sent home for numerous things during my high-school career and I don't remember any of them making the local news. Long Beach, NY must be one sleepy little burg.

The Principal needs a sense of humor. If the girls were covered up, I don't see any problem with it. Perhaps the Principal just doesn't like Captain Underpants - the cartoonist takes a lot of digs at the school principal.

The principle's a dweeb. These girls were dressed more than appropriately, if you're going to have "Superhero Day" at school.
That outfit would almost pass Taliban muster.

My top three societal concerns:
- Terrorism
- Illegal immigration
- Captain Underpants Girls not being allowed to express themselves

The outfit would be provocative enough to warrant sending them home to change, I feel.

They were dressed as Superman, Wonderwoman and other well-known superheroes. Wonderwoman? Isn't she an Amazon? Weren't they ...<gasp!> lesbians?
Wonder what the principal thinks about that? Or maybe he didn't think...just reacted.

One of the girls said she doesn't understand the fuss. Honor student Horowitz said of the costume, "They're not see-through or anything." Seems they cut the quote. From Breitbart.com :
"They're not see-through or anything," said one of the girls, Chelsea Horowitz, an honor student and softball player. "All the teachers thought it was cute."
At which point I would say... of course they would. kids in underwear in front of teachers is like leaving meat uncovered in the street...

Principal Nicholas Restivo: You girls take those underpants off at once!
First Girl: What?
Principal Nicholas Restivo: You heard me! At once!

I would have been concerned if they didn't have the beige leotards, but since they were completely covered (likely more coverage than they would normally have on an average school day....), I don't see a problem. Apparently other students had costumes that involved leotards (Superman).
Was their choice a good one, maybe not. Would I have approved of such a costume for my child, probably not. But I don't see a major problem that justified sending them home.

Captain Underpants? In my day 17 year-olds had heroes like Jimmy Page and Pete Townsend.
