Active Duty GIs Being Recruited To Lobby Congress Against War
New York Sun ^ | October 26,2006 | Eli Lake

WASHINGTON — Former military generals are criticizing anti-war groups for helping to organize active-duty soldiers to urge Congress to end the war in Iraq.

In interviews yesterday, the generals were careful to say they have no objection to enlisted soldiers petitioning Congress as private citizens. It is a different matter, however, to coordinate this drive so close to the midterm elections and publicize it with the aid of anti-war organizations, they said.

Yesterday, a company that does public relations for the liberal activist political action committee MoveOn.org, Fenton Communications, organized a conference call for reporters and three active-duty soldiers to unveil the soldiers' anti-war group Appeal for Redress.

According to its Web site, Appeal for Redress is seeking signatures of active-duty soldiers for a petition that reads in part, "As a patriotic American proud to serve the nation in uniform, I respectfully urge my political leaders in Congress to support the prompt withdrawal of all American military forces and bases from Iraq."

The group says it now has 213 members.

"I think it is shameful because the timing is so close to the election. They ought to be ashamed of themselves," a retired Air Force lieutenant general, Thomas McInerney, told The New York Sun yesterday by phone from Israel. "The soldiers should be ashamed of themselves for being duped into this. It is to be expected from a MoveOn.org-type group. They have no standards."

there's no problem with active duty military members privately petioning elected officials, but they are not allowed to publicly campaign for or against the government, in any manner. Living in government housing, you aren't even allowed to display yard signs or bumper stickers.

moveon.org is getting these soldiers in serious legal peril, not that they care.

Doing it off-duty, off base and out of uniform is okay.

It's a newer way for soldiers to go AWOL and get out of the work they signed up to do. And the liberal Dems get soldier "human shields" out in front in order for the libbies to continue to promote their anti-American position in the WOT. Got it.

I see what's next on the Move-on front: "Conflict Resolution" agenda items for soldiers to get to resolve their conflicts with their commanding officers.

They are looking for another John Kerry.. A traitor to undercut the war effort on national TV. More of the same. They have a play book. Its called Vietnam. And alot of folks have said "Never again." and we will just have to see if they mean it.

Being out of uniform and off base is negated if you identify yourself as active duty.

If this is Soro's group it is illegal.

Another retired Army major general, Donald Edwards, called the public relations effort "totally inappropriate" and said the soldiers should wait until they are out of the service to enter politics.

"The members of the military should not actively be involved in elections on a federal scale," General Edwards said. "As I understand the rules of military conduct, you are not allowed and should not be involved in political activity on the federal or state level."

It never ceases to amaze me how tenacious a liberal can be about a subject, and how much lack of understanding and compassion they display to those who show equal fortitude in persuing their objectives.

For example, the disdain shown to a right to lifer.

But even if they somehow plopped up signatures of half the military, it still wouldn't mean anything. Whoopie, they convinced folks in uniform to exercise poor judgment. They share that distinction with the owner of the local bar - it doesn't prove anyone's point.

This is BU115IT!!!

The thought of active duty service members participating in this sort of shady politics is nauseating. Exercising the franchise by voting is the serviceman's duty as a citizen.

The American military liberal is one of the imponderables.

Funny.. the answer to this is to take Jack Murtha DOWN. Military people are protecting this scumbag because of his service and I understand. But Murtha is just another untouchable spokesman of the left. They see that he is protected even when he is hated, so they mean to give us more of the same.. Vets with medals betraying their country for the Cameras and tearing out hearts out because we want to not tear into them because we respect that they put it out there..

Nevertheless, respect gets you to the table. It doesn't keep you there once you have made a fool of yourself.

If Murtha lost his seat because of the horrible things he has done and said, then this would end this whole line of attack.
