Google Registers Political Action Committee

Google has registered a political action committee with the US Federal Election Commission...

apparently we’re now going to see the bizarre leftist philosophy so evident at Google News extended into the political meat world:

Google becomes a political player.

Google has an impressive list of players on its team. As well as counting Al Gore among its senior advisers, Google’s Washington office was set up about a year and a half ago by Alan Davidson. A well-known Democrat sympathiser, he served for eight years as associate director of the Centre for Democracy and Technology, a thinktank that opposes government and industry control of the web.

Alongside him is Robert Boorstin, a former Clinton foreign policy aide from the Centre for American Progress, as Google’s communications chief in the capital.

Google’s PAC will be run by a five-person board of directors who will be guided by the recommendations of an advisory committee made up of Google employees. It will raise its funds through voluntary donations from staff.

But judging from the fact that in the past Google employees have been involved with leftwing groups such as MoveOn.org, it will be very interesting to see where that cash is headed.

Google, on the other hand, has something that probably won't go extinct: a search engine. Theirs is the dominant search engine, and I don't see that changing.

I take an entirely different view. It was not all that long ago when Google did not exist and the top search engines were the likes of AltaVista, Lycos, Yahoo, and Excite (with significant minority showings from players like Northern Light and Dogpile). Google eventually came along, introduced some revolutionary advancements, especially in terms of income-generating search engine "results" for Google and its customers, and quickly became dominant. Now Google is getting arrogant, possibly too big for itself, and unashamedly leaning hard left. Google is quickly becoming the new monolithic "Microsoft" that every tech savvy person wants to hate. Consequently, a golden opportunity is developing for one or more new players with something fresh to offer. Many years ago, most people assumed IBM would forever dominate the home computer market. More recently, most people assumed AOL would forever dominate the internet. All of those people were completely wrong. Google may very well continue in those footsteps, for the simple reason that the U.S. free market economy fosters extremely intense and often cutthroat competition, competition that often succeeds (especially in David and Goliath scenarios).

I don't even use Google. So no, I won't.

Oh yeah, I remember that logo. I wasn't commenting on the other logo image. I meant that I would prefer that Google go the PAC route than the algoritm tweaking route.

Re: Warren Buffet - He says he supports the death tax and yet he willed most of his fortune to the Gates Foundation. He could have put his money where his mouth is and willed most of his fortune to the IRS. Actions speak louder than words.

Warren Buffet's actions show that he believes that there are two sets of rules.

One for him and a completely different set of rules for everyone else.

Thanks for the ping!

Obviously they'll have to extend CFR to regulate ALL content on the internet. :P

Google's politics suck. You can tell by going to the site's "news" page and seeing what they put at the top of those pages...one time, I swear, was an "MTV" news article. As if MTV's 'take' about anything other than Snoop Dogg's latest arrest was an important news story.

And I bet his legs look better than hers, too!

I dunno. The way she's built from the waist up, she's gotta have a matching set of pins.

Hell, I'd bring her the crackers just to have her eat 'em in my bed.   ;o)
