INDIANAPOLIS - A second media poll in a week shows that Democratic Rep. Julia Carson is in an unexpectedly close re-election campaign just two weeks before Election Day.
Carson, seeking her sixth term in the 7th District that includes most of Indianapolis, was the pick of 48 percent of those surveyed, with Republican Eric Dickerson supported by 43 percent in WISH-TV Indiana Poll released Monday.
Nine percent were undecided in the poll, which has a margin of error of plus or minus 5 percentage points.
The new poll found the race much tighter than a WISH survey in early September, which showed Carson leading 55 percent to 35 percent. Since then Dickerson, a former auto dealer, has often raised questions Carson's health and effectiveness in office.
Carson, who had double bypass heart surgery shortly before taking office in early 1997, has maintained that her health is fine.
A poll for television station WTHR released last week found Dickerson, not to be confused with the former NFL running back, with 45 percent support to 42 percent for Carson, within the margin of error of 4 percentage points...

Because a seat in Congress is a terrible thing to waste.
GO ERIC!!!!!
Suzy, this alone is a indictation that the tides are truning for the GOP.
This is great news. Although in the past Carlson has been losing in the polls and has somehow pulled it out. Hopefully this time she can't. I am sure the Dems were not even considering losing this seat. It has not been showing up on any charts.
The shame here is that that Dickerson has gotten next to zero help from the GOP in this race. Might end up being a real missed opportunity to steal a supposedly "safe" Democratic seat.
Dickerson has it right when he calls her (Carson) a "stand-in" candidate. She does whatever the Democratic leadership tells her to do and then collects her paycheck. She has no initiative, no vision other than keeping herself in power.
Carson is a complete A--hole and a raw scar to our good Hoosier state; she won't be missed by this Republican.
She has always pulled it out before by double-voters, dead voters, felon voters, etc. With the Indiana voter ID law in place, it just might be that she won't be able to do it.
I notice the poll last week that showed Dickerson leading.
This would be a GOP pickup in the House.
Something to keep an eye on.
The voter ID thing isnt going to hurt us either.
If you notice, the steering wheel is on the left side. Unlike the ROVE1987 model which was designed for the European theatre, (the one which Reagan used to crush the USSR with) this model is designed for the American market.
The outside steering wheel attaches to an advanced set of actuators and transmissions that enables the ROVE2000 models 2000/2002/2004 series to make a quick getaway should DNC operatives get near. The inside wheel controls the weather and Howard Deans remarks to US Newswire. This is a new feature that came out of beta testing in late 2005.
Translation: Carson is trailing.
I've been reading a little about the 3 Pubbie Reps who appear to be having a difficult time (Hostettler, Chocola, Sodrel). Found this article, but don't know how 'true' it is, since it's in a SF paper.

I'm interested in hearing how does someone in IN view these races? Thanks!
FWIW, here's the link to realclearpolitics - you can click on their names to see the polls

Great news!!! Hooray Eric Dickerson! BTTT!
i was in a government class last night... the instructor said something really interesting... that having a solid lead in Congress was more powerful than having a President from your own party... (having both is best, i would say)... but it is close races such as this one where we as citizens should be putting our money... even if it's for our own representative...
Seattle Conservative - The article sticks pretty close to the facts here in Indiana. We are true red, but when Hoosiers feel let down by their leaders, we tend to vote them out...regardless. For years we vote all red except we voted for blue governors. We are a very conservative state, except for the larger cities, so I've never understood this.
The commercials currently being run focus on Iraq and the economy (Indiana is still in the rust belt by the way)with the beltway theme running through both dem and pubbie ads.
As far as Gov. Daniels goes, he has made some very unpopular decisions here in Hooserland, but overall I think he's far better than the dem he replaced.
I'm not going to guess how the voters will respond, but, sorry to say, I won't be surprised if Hoosiers replace these three.
