Michael J. Fox Campaigns for Stem Cell Research, Cardin
WJLA-TV ^ | October 24, 2006

Posted on 10/24/2006 5:13:31 AM PDT by Dane

Actor and stem-cell research activist Michael J. Fox is getting involved in Maryland's Senate race - with a commercial endorsing Democrat Ben Cardin.

The ad also criticizes Republican candidate Michael Steele's stance on stem cell research.

Fox tells viewers - quote - "Stem cell research offers hope to millions of Americans with diseases like diabetes, Alzheimer's and Parkinson's. But George Bush and Michael Steele would put limits on the most promising stem cell research."

Fox has also filmed 30-second spots for several other candidates. His publicist says Fox wants to get involved in races that involve candidates who disagree on the issue.

Steele has maintained his position that research on embryos is not needed, especially, because he says there is promising research being done on adult stem cells

Fine you can beleive in polls. Polls for the last 10 years or so, have been wildly off.

Why how can you say that. Just last week Rush was crowing about how the polls are breaking towards the GOP. Of course, the Kansas City Star came out this morning with a poll showing McCaskill ahead of Talent so I imagine Rush will do a show today on how the polls for the last 10 years or so have been wildly off.

Face it, the only poll that matters is being taken two weeks from today. And I plan on participating in it.

IMO, he is exploiting himself and also calls himself an American, while he holds dual American/Canadian citizenship.

Not to defend Mr. Fox in any way, but the irony of your comment is just too much to pass up.

As for the Fox ad, I saw the one he did for McCaskill and I think it will backfire.

The "demand" for Embryonic Stem Cell research is grounded in the abortion debate.
If it were about scientific and medical potential the focus would be on Adult Stem Cell research, for in fact, that is where all of the SCIENTIFIC progress has been made.

The liberals simply want to be able to show some "good" can result from abortion.

No positive results have been achieved in the medical use of Embryonic Stem Cells, and I assert, never will.
You may see papers alleging progress, but further study will never support those conclusions.

If MJF wants to be an American so bad, why doesn't he relinquish his Canadian citizenship.

It is wrong for Fox to play on people's sympathy in order to get them to support anti-life candidates. Unfortunately, this is all too typical of the advocates of embryonic stem cell research. Many of the ESCR groups have websites that solicit sick people and people with spinal cord injuries to come forward with their stories because the only way that they can win this argument is to play on people's emotions. ESCR has not led to a single treatment or therapy and probably will never do so.

Pro-lifers need to counteract their propaganda with facts and to point out that funding ESCR will lead to demands that the government fund the creation of
embryos for experimentation and that it fund cloning. I hope voters will just say "No" to the Brave New World that Michael J. Fox wants.

Either he is brainwashed into believing in embryonic stem cells or he knows there is no value in them and is being dishonest. Either way he is being a prop.

Pray for W and the Election

We have the same similar ad running here in Iowa by Boswell against Lamberti. I've written a letter to the editor and may need help if I get shot down.

I got caught up in poll mania in 2000 and I said never again.

Face it polls were wrong in 2000, 02, and 04. The vaunted exit polling is now in shambles.

BTW, Talent pulls it out despite you and the Kansas City Star's wet dream. Just remember just because the Kansas City Star prints a poll doesn't make it true.

The days of liberal media manipulation are coming to an end, and I guerss you will be crying in your Starbuck's on the morning of November 8th.

Hope you are right. However, the pubbies can help the "backfire" by getting out there and telling folks that the Dems are into killing embryos for research purposes. Its apparent how the folks in this forum are feeling about Mr. Fox's recent TV appearances. However, I'm worried about the folks on the outside and their reactions to all this.

His statement is incorrect that George Bush would put limits on the most promising type of research.

The modt promiding area of research is using a person's own stem cells for therapies.

These days, if somebody says "stem cells", the religious right goes into fits. True, stem cells were first discovered in embryonic tissues, but they exist in the millions of not billions in the placenta which is discarded.

So let's grow up, folks. I, for one cannot demand that research stops. It might save my life. Or your life. Or your childs life.

I've always been against dual citizenship, be it with the UK, Israel, Canada, or Mexico.

There are no limits on stem cell research of ANY kind, embyronic or otherwise.

We simply don't want the FEDERAL GOVERNMENT to give money for current harvesting of embryos.

George Bush was the FIRST president to offer ANY federal funding for Embryonic stem cell research. Clinton did not.

And states are funding the research. Private groups COULD fund the research as well.

In fact, Fox could take all the money he is donating to politicians, and all the time and energy he is spending on elections, and simply RAISE MONEY FOR EMBRYONIC STEM CELL RESEARCH!!!.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government (which only has limited resources for ALL research) isn't "cutting" the research budget, whatever is NOT spent on Embryonic Stem Cell research is INSTEAD being spent on ADULT STEM CELL research, which is equally as promising (and isn't causing tumors in rats like the embryonic equivalent).

Hey, there's also money from dozens of FOREIGN governments being spent on embryonic stem cell research. In fact, why doesn't Michael go and lobby HIS government (Canada) for money?

Is there anything quite as pathetic as a multi-millionare with multi-millionare friends trying to get common, ordinary people like you and me to fork up our hard-earned money to pay for research to cure THEIR diseases? Why don't they get a few billion from Bill Gates, Soros, and Warren Buffet? If they need more, get Ted Turner to pitch in a billion.

I saw it. He did a great Captain Jack Sparrow impression, while twisting the truth abd claiming the GOP candidate was "against stem cell research."

BTW, that poll is a MSNBC/McClatey poll.

MSNBC home of the wacko Keith Olberidiot.

JMO, Talent wins and Keith Olberidiot is in a straightjacket on November 8th.

According to polls I've seen in Missouri he's only pissing off about a third.

A pity that lies, half truths and distortions only pisses off one third of voters, don't you think?
