Only 25 percent of the American people according to the latest Newsweek poll are now "optimistic" about the direction of the war in Iraq; 65 percent are "pessimistic."
Why have so many Americans, only now, come to realize that this war has gone bad...?

Paul Craig Roberts
He's a real piece of work.
I'm trying to turn over a new leaf and be nice. If I wasn't I might say he's a POS who doesn't have the brains God gave an animal cracker...but as I said I'm turning over a new leaf so I won't say that.
Closer to bottler, or one who bottles.
Whatever he's got bottled up, I'm not drinking it ... Let's get Mikey!
I for one appreciate your restraint.
Remember the talk of how Afghanistan was to be the death of nations? Yet we're supposed to focus our time there and ignore Sadaam's terror camps? Iraq is a roach motel for terrorists - they check in but they don't check out. It's unfortunate people die in war and these terrorists and the usual of anti-us liberal sympathizers are deadly, but the bail-to-Okinawa solution really doesn't cut it.
LeBoutillier sounds french to me. I figured he'd raise a YELLOW one.
This is no surprise. Newsmax is the willing home of traitors to the Republic. Do a keyword search on "PaULCRAIGROBERTS" if you have any questions.
Well said.
I was in N'Awlins two weekends ago -- and yes, I was packing!
You sound like a BushBot.
Nothing wrong with it. It's not your vote the GOP is sweating over.
You will give them your vote regardless.
It's those that DON"T drink the kool-aid ALL the time, that they are worried about.
This is like a title fight and we are Mike Tyson against Micheal Spinks(1 round knockout) , we are not losing any battles, this is a war between the Iraqis now, this is only round 4-5 of a 12 round fight. Cut'n run is the wrong policy.
I wonder how the polls looked for Germany and Japan in 1948-49???
Hmmmm!!!
You sound like Buchannon or John LeBoutillier here. And according to the posts, most do not think highly of him. Buchannon got less than 1% of the vote and he too is in very low regard on FR. You three can start your own party. You will probably get 5 or so votes, minus your three, a whole two.
Actually I agree with Bush on a lot of things and disagree on a few things.
The difference is you agree with him regardless. Thats your choice.
Sadly, the truth of the matter is that the law enforcement officials have abandoned the innter cities. Any attempt at enforcement brings howls of protest from the usual suspects. The result is that the police officers simply do not enter those communities with any intention of using force. They enter with the hope and prayer of leaving alive.
If the dems win this election look for horrific attacks on our country and our interests around the world.
As far as the vast majority of people in the middle who are losing confidence in the war effort, let me let you in on a little propaganda secret. The media has been subliminally stating that Iraq is a disaster from the minute they started covering it.
2,500 fatalaties over a three and a half years are a lot for a media organization to report only if your underlying message is that what they were doing was nothing worth dying for. The media reports in such a way as to imply the deaths were in fact senseless and tragic.
In that regard, the media covers U.S. troop deaths in Iraq in the same way they would a terrorist attack here. They basically cover it as a series of killings that becomes more newsworthy with every additional death. Like the DC sniper or other mass murderer claiming another victim. They're not covering this war like it's a war. They're covering it like it's a serial killing.
I'm sure you can all figure out the media's idea of who the deranged serial killer is. The man behind the scenes responsible for these deaths. I'll give you a hint: It's not the terrorists. They're treated like little more than guns used as murder weapons. Evil, in their own way, and something to be legislated against, but not the root of the problem.
Mull that over for a bit. Then watch the news, and imagine my serial killer metaphor. It should all make more sense to you then.
