FReeper SoldierDad reports in a series of posts that his son has been countering the peaceniks every Saturday in Chico all alone as his brother serves in Iraq:
"I wish that people in my community would come together like these people and demonstrate their support for our troops (instead of those who stand on a corner in our down town area protesting our troops). My oldest son stands alone on a corner just down the street from these cretins holding up a sign which reads "I stand with President Bush and our Troops". He does this most Saturdays for hours, all alone. This Saturday he was screamed at with "murderer" and accosted by several of the "peace" protesters who came to his corner and got into his face. That is the level of support displayed in our city (Chico, CA). What a shame."
"Thank you. I actually have two remarkable sons. One trying to demonstrate his patriotism here at home, and one fighting the enemy in Iraq."
"Thank you for your kind words. I don't think of myself as all that remarkable. I'm just an American who loves his country and countrymen/women. My son's also have that love of country. The person who deserves the compliment of being remarkable would be my Grandfather. He fought in the trenches of France in WWI. He passed on his patriotism to all his children and grandchildren. We've had many family members in uniform, with some serving overseas during a time of conflict or war."
"Right now not only is my son serving in the war, but my brother's son is as well. My sister's son already served one tour in Baghdad and may redeploy before the end of the year. My sister's husband's niece is also in Iraq right now. All of this came from our grandfather; may God Bless his soul in Heaven."
We've decided to drive up to Chico this coming Saturday to stand with this young patriot and his family in support of our president and our troops. We'd welcome all FReepers and Lurkers in the area to join us. Let's go to Chico and stand tall for our troops!
More from SoldierDad:
"The street location for the rally is W. 2nd Street and Main Street. There is a two story parking structure between W. 3rd and W 4th Streets on Salem Street. There is also a possible parking area at E 5th Street and Wall Street (several blocks from the rally location). You should be aware that on Saturdays there is a Farmer's Market about one block away from our Rally location. So, if anyone would be interested in browsing the Farmer's Market . . .
Rick was on his corner again today. There were three young men who left Rick a copy of Michael Moore's Fahrenheit 9/11 and ran off. He was conversing with a man and his teenage daughter who were thanking him when another man came up and tried to get my son to go see some "documentary" called "Iraq for Sale - War Profiteers". Such is the mentality of many in Chico.
We look forward to holding this Rally on Saturday the 28th with all of those who come here from Fresno or wherever they are from. Rick says he normally goes to this corner at around 12:00 noon, but whatever time you'd like to get this going is fine with us. We will be available for the whole day. And afterward we can spend time at a local restaurant. I'm not sure what type of restaurant would be preferred, but we have an Applebees, Olive Garden, Logans Road House, Red Lobster, or many other choices."
The rally will be held from noon to 3:00pm on Saturday the 28th on W. 2nd Street and Main Street in Chico and we'll have dinner afterwards at a nearby restaurant (time and place to be announced). We're coming from Fresno, Sacramento, Santa Rosa and other points in Central and Northern California and will be staying at the Holiday Inn a couple miles north of the rally location. Please join us if you can. Bring signs, American flags, service flags, banners and your entire family.
Hope to see you there!
Ping to Support our Troops Rally in Chico!!
Ping to the Support our Troops rally in Chico. Anything you can do to help get the word out would be greatly appreciated.
Sadly I'm out of state until the 29th otherwise I would attend this FReep.
But I do want to mention I've stayed in that Holiday Inn and it has fantastic high speed internet, bring your laptops.
bttt
Darn .... I was hoping to attend this rally. :(
Unfortunately, I must attend a funeral in Oregon on Thursday and will not be able to make the trip to Chico.
I hope someone will go in my place. I will be thinking about you.
I'm experiencing goose bumps right now as I read this post. My son and I, along with my 7 year old granddaughter are so very much looking forward to this rally and seeing as many of my FRiends who can attend. We've sent invitations to the local CSU, Chico Republican's Club, and are contacting the VFW as well. Hopefully this rally will have a big turn out to demonstrate support for those who serve during this time of war.
God Bless you all, and we'll see you in Chico.
Ok, great! See you there!

I wish I could be there to join with y'all, but we have previous plans made for this coming weekend. Give us a wave as you pass through Modesto.
Ok, will wave and honk as we pass by.
Almost in my "backyard" too.I'm towing a moving trailer to Oregon Friday for my Mom.
You will meet some nice folks in Chico, and of course some Wacko's [it is a university town , and very liberal]
Take the thirty minutes to visit the Sierra Nevada Brewery facility. It is beautiful.[good food also, but a little noisy]
Please let us know about the next one up this way.
I have my radio show from 3pm to 5pm so I cannot make the ralley, but set your radio dial on KMYC 1410 AM and listen to some classic rock. The station goes up to Corning so Chico definately is in the broadcast zone. I would love to get some calls from Freepers. This is Pacific coast time if other freepers would like to call in. 530 742-5555 I definately will give my fellow freepers a shout out on the radio!
Sounds great to me! Thanks
Maybe some of our friends up north can call in during the next few days and talk about the rally?
SoldierDad, it'll be an honor to stand with you and you son and other patriots from up and down the valley and your area.
What an blessing it is for you having so many Patriotic Americans in your family!
Thank you, and I look forward to standing with you and everone else on Saturday.
My show is only on Saturday from 3 to 5 pm I play classic rock and give my opinion on anything and everything in between songs. For some reason most of my calls are about relationships. A pastor friend says most people have nobody to ask about these kinds or issues. Chico is about an hour away, but I have to get to the studio to set up. the show is live. I spend some time getting "up" for the show too. The staion isn't on the internet, but I'll talk to the owner about it. I've only been doing the show for about 2 months, so I'm a real novice, but the owner is happy, and the listener have been supportive.
My son spent 16 months in Afganastan, and is now in Iraq. He is a Sgnt. in the Army. His wife hates Bush and the Army, it seems to be the wifes are not too supportive of their husbands mission. I noticed this in Air Force wives also.
Thank your son for me, please. I'm sorry that his wife feels the way she does, but I do understand why. What wife would want their husband to be in a war where they might be killed at any second. Especially if they have children.
However, supporting this mission is, or should be, a priority for all Americans. Sadly, it is not. People have placed their own well being above that of Iraqi citizens or this nation. This mentality could very well be the death nell for all of us unless we find a way to counter this line of thinking. I hate that my son is in a war. I hate that war is necessary. But, I understand what is at stake and I and my wife stand behind our troops and their mission 100%. "We Will Not Tire, We Will Not Falter, We Will Not Fail". Those words hold meaning, and should echo throughout this land.
