West Point opens Islamic worship space as Muslim cadets increase

WEST POINT, N.Y. (AP) _ Muslims at the U.S. Military Academy numbered just two in 2001. This year, there are 32.

Now West Point has opened its first space dedicated to Muslims, a worship hall complete with a pulpit facing Mecca. The space officially opened Thursday.

"I knew the Army had a policy of religious tolerance, but I didn't know it was to this extent," said first-year Cadet Ahmed Moomin, 20, from the Maldives.

Until now, Friday prayers were held in an increasingly crowded first-floor office, said Imam Asadullah, the academy's Muslim cleric. The number of Muslim cadets jumped by 10 from last year.

The new hall is large enough for dozens of followers, he said.

West Point's Muslim leaders approached administrators last year for help.

"We live in a world where everyone is looking at the United States saying, 'You're anti-Islam.' But here at West Point, that's not what we do," West Point Chaplain Col. John Cook said.

That doesn't sound right. If the imam faces Mecca, and faces the crowd too, that means the crowd's arses are pointed at Mecca when they make the salaam (kneel and bend over). Nope, that's not how they do it, though I never miss an opportunity to point my own arse that way.

"We have cadets here who are going to be the future of tomorrow," he said. "If we treat them differently from other cadets or other faiths, that will be a cause for future confrontation."

So, our most prestigious military training centers are concerned that if they don't accept Islam with open arms they will have "future confrontations" with their own graduate soldiers.
The implications of this statement are chilling.

I don't have a good feeling about this. This could be infiltration.

While I'm no fan of the Muslim religion, the thoughts expressed on this thread do not support any argument that can be used by West Point to exclude Muslim students from either attending or practicing their faith at West Point. Simply saying it's "sick" indicates a lack of depth in thought for or against the issue.

Among other things ... from the Point's site;

"December 31, 2006: Those candidates applying for the Class of 2011 should contact their local Congressional representative, two state Senators and the Vice President of the United States to request their nomination."

1: Basic Requirements

GENERAL ACADEMIC MEDICAL PHYSICAL LEADERSHIP

General Requirements

* Each candidate must: be 17 but not yet 23 years of age by July 1 of year admitted. (The increase in maximum age is a result of a recent change to Title X, U.S. Code.)
* be a U.S. citizen at time of enrollment (exception: foreign students nominated by agreement between U.S. and another country).
* be unmarried.
* not be pregnant or have a legal obligation to support a child or children

Academic Qualifications

* Each candidate should have: an above-average high school or college academic record.
* strong performance on the standardized American College Testing (ACT) Assessment Program Exam or the College Board Admissions Testing Program Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT).

West Point uses the results of your ACT/SAT, high school class rank, and the recommendations of your faculty to determine your academic qualification. Consideration is also given to the types of courses taken and the percentage of students from your school who attend four-year colleges after high school, as reported by the Educational Testing Service (ETS).

West Point encourages a strong college preparatory academic background as a prerequisite for admission. Recommended areas of preparation are: four years of English with emphasis on composition, grammar, literature, speech; four years of math, algebra, plane geometry, intermediate algebra, trigonometry; two years of a foreign language; two years of laboratory science such as chemistry and physics and one year of U.S. history. Additionally, you will find courses in geography, government and economics to be very helpful. College courses taken prior to entrance to West Point may be substituted for similar courses in the Military Academy curriculum.

Medical Qualifications

* Candidates must: be in good physical and mental health.
* Pass a Medical Exam (Described in Step 6).

Back to Top Physical Qualifications

* Each candidate should have: above-average strength, endurance and agility.
* adequate performance on USMA Physical Aptitude Exam (Described in Step 6).

Leadership Qualifications
You should strive to develop the personal traits that will allow you to be an effective leader in school, church and community activities. Participation in secondary school extracurricular activities, both athletic and non-athletic, and the attainment of responsible positions in those activities, provide valuable leadership experience. You should try to make significant contributions in leadership positions on athletic teams, in club and class activities, and in church, scout, civic and community activities. Working to provide family financial support may limit participation in extracurricular activities at school. If so, that should be noted in your application.

So now, West Point is commanded by politically correct damn fools. Sounds a lot like pro wrestling school, doesn't it? Training the bad guys right along with the good guys.

I am sure that if muslim prayer time arrives during a parade, it will be halted and as non-muslims stand at parade rest, the muslim Cadets will face Mecca with their nose to the ground and their ass in the air as West Point comes to a stand still.

By the time our leaders wake up and realize that Islamites are the problem, they will be in command of our military forces.
