Toyota and Nissan don't even make "heavy-duty" pickups, so they're not even an option if you need one.
And their light-duty full size trucks aren't as efficient as Fords or GMs. Nissan, for instance, only offers the 5.6 V-8 on their Titan, and offers only one wheelbase.
I saw the Chevy ad, and didn't get freaked out about it. Frankly, I don't see what the big deal is. Some people just need to lighten up.
I'm probably going to buy a Chevy Silverado 3500 pickup next year, but I'm making my decision based on efficiency, capacity and the fact that GM has the best diesel engine/transmission combo right now, rather than on the basis of advertising. I'd consider the Ford, but I don't trust the newer International Powerstroke engines.
Bad ad, very, very bad ad.
A little background...

Jimmy Webb was cool as well although a bit bizarre..He`s (or was when I met him) absolutely completely obsessed with flying. He use to make paper airplanes and go to the roof and throw them off, I mean all all all all the freggin` time! He told me the first time he played Glen Cambell Wichita Lineman Glen went into a seizure, he couldn`t speak. I don`t blame Glen though, I would have as well.. that song was a song to make careers. He also told me one time Col. Parker called him up because Elvis wanted to do one of his songs, so he met Elvis in a hotel and he said the SAME thing Nixon said about meeting Elvis, that he thought Elvis dressed outrageous to hide his shyness. Then Col.Parker wanted to give Elvis songwriting credit so he turned them down. Sh*t man, what an idiot, can you imagine? Can you imagine having your name next to Elvis on a song? I can`t even imagine the amount of songwriters who would have given that dude full credit much less half if just to get him to record a song you wrote. Yeah, Jimmy Webb was really bizarre. He also use to listen to the B side of Abbey road by the Beatles over and over before recording his own stuff which when he got going usually included a quart of JD. Yeah, that studio stuff was nuts. What I got out of it was all these artists basically do is get wasted, waste time and then do something. The best though was this two Mexican singers who came in one day wanting to do a version of "Feelings" which seemed to go on forever! They just could not do enough takes.. Talk about torture! I think that`s when I decided I didn`t want to be a record engineer.
I think it's an excellent ad. I love the ending especially.
Most definitely is a negative view of our Great America!
Horrible in my view...very unprofessional and stupid.
No people helping people, no US giving, giving and giving to those in need all over the world as well as here in America;.
No inspiration except for the quick shot of the Tower of Lights for the Twin Towers.
Some young lefty punk OK'd that ad....as a Detroiter who loves trucks, living in NYC and a patriotic American..this Ad is worse than terrible.
I will give them a call. Anyone who knows Mellencamp's work should be aware of his anti-American, anti-troop anti-anti views. I am from a coal miner/auto worker family....NOOOOBody thinks like Mellencamp...he is basking in his millions.
They used MelonHead in a commercial?? Another of a line of many bad decisions that has put the company is in the shiiter
Look again. Nissan already has a full-size pickup out--I'm not aware of the max. towing capacity available. And Toyota has a new full-size pick-up with up to a 10,000 lb. towing capacity available that will be in showrooms in Feb '07. It was designed and built from scratch in the U.S. in one of two mfg. plants. One of the plants is brand new from the ground up in San Antonio, TX
I thought the ad sucked. If their aim was to create controversy, well they got it. If their aim was to sell trucks, I think they missed the mark.
Personally I think the new Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado are fugly. No character at all.
Ironically, I just bought my first Chevy a few weeks ago - a Trailblazer SS. Unfortunately, I didn't see the ad before I bought it.
Not a wobbler bearing or even a lousy kneuter valve.
My dealings with Chevrolet and their dealer demonstrated to me they know diddly about consumers and don't care to learn.
GM's attitude towards those who purchase their products is pretty much, "You bought it, you own it." Or "The brakes on your S-10 are defective? TS, your problem".
So, it doesn't surprise me that their advertising is also insulting. Results speak for themselves. Apparently GM doesn't see their current situation [in the toilet] as something they are responsible for.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. — Japan's top two automakers reportedly have delayed or shelved programs to build new heavy-duty pickups in the United States.
According to the trade publication Automotive News, Toyota has indefinitely delayed a new HD truck that it was jointly developing with Hino, its commercial-truck affiliate, that had been scheduled to begin production in 2009. In addition, Nissan now doesn't plan to bring its new HD pickup to market before 2009 at the earliest, the paper said.
In the meantime, Ford is rolling out a redesigned Super Duty pickup in spring 2007. The redesigned heavy-duty Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups will arrive from General Motors about the same time.
The news report did not say why Toyota had scrubbed its HD truck project. It said Nissan had originally planned to build a HD version of its current Titan full-size pickup but ultimately decided the existing platform could not support the extra payload requirements.
Supplier sources tell Inside Line that the next-generation Titan will be launched in late 2009 or early 2010, and a heavy-duty version is part of the program.
Incidentally, at 10,000 lb. towing capacity is not really "heavy duty." Yes, the Chevy 1500HD is just over 10,000, but the real heavy-duty trucks, the 2500HD and 3500, tow over 16,000 lbs. That's the territory that Toyota and Nissan are not yet venturing into.
The Republicans once used "Little Pink Houses." How dense is that?
Wow, that really sucked.
ok, ok, I get it. Standard equipment that is usally available on vehicles of other manufacturers, only as extras, or options.
I kinda thought that's what you meant.
(just pokin at you)
