On Friday night, Hillary Clinton finally had to face an unscripted, uncontrolled media event -- a debate with her feisty opponent John Spencer, the Republican candidate for Senator from New York this year.

Spencer pinned her ears back with his opening statement when he declared: "I am the only person here who really wants to be the Senator from New York .... she wants to be president."

Sadly, it will not affect the polls one whit.

Spencer was excellent. He is quick witted and astute. His timely query about 'responsibility and efficiency' punctured Hillary's complaciency.

OTOH, HRC sounded slow and smooth with her prepared stands. She sounded lame with the obligatory Bush bashing. Her voice would rise and flatten out - became nasal if she became riled.

It was evident she has been working with voice coaches on her strong mid-western accent.

Wh won? Spencer. Hands down.

Hillary clearly lost this debate. The best part for me was when she was asked about improving New York's business climate and part of her response was that they should utilize Ebay....lol........now that's rich. :-)

I saw a good portion of the debate. The questions were all from the left, of course, and the crowd in Rochester was anything but silent, unless Spencer was talking (huge applause for Hillary every answer).

Spencer was tough and did not shy away from conservative positions, Hillary blamed every problem on Bush...she had promised 200,000 jobs for western NY when she ran 6 years ago, however she was prevented from fulfilling that promise because of Bush's policies. Spencer called her on every "Bush's fault" answer.

Geeze guys, stop obsessing about Hillary.

We're not going to beat her in the Senate race, OK? It's just not going to happen.

But that's good, because we'll trash her in the Presidential race.

Focus on the 7 races that matter.

Thank you so much for this URL. I don't understand how New Yorkers can vote for Hillary Clinton. She is nothing but a carpetbagger, and Spencer was 100% correct when he said she was using N.Y. as a doormat to a higher office. He nailed her plenty of times in the debate, and if New Yorkers would take the time to check her record and recollect her comments, they would find out that she has been dishonest from day one. She wanted to make an issue of protecting the youth from predators, but she defended that pervert of a husband of hers for his predatory acts. As her usual M.O., she blamed the "Right wing Extremists" for some of his acts, and she even went so far as to threaten and intimidate some of those he allegedly assaulted. She does not deserve to be a U.S. Senator nor POTUS. Both she and her husband deserve to live the rest of their lives in Arkansas...preferable in prison!

By the way, it was not even covered in the liberal rag Albany Times-Union. That means Spencer even won in the minds of the press.

Won't stop Hillary in NY, most will vote for her because of their hero Bill.

One of Spencer's lines was a direct hit.

When Hillary called again for Rummy to resign, saying "In the middle of the Civil War, Abraham Lincoln did not hesitate to change generals."

Spencer shot back immediately pointing out the obvious: "Abraham Lincoln was POTUS, you are just a Senator " "you are not president yet" .

"Hillary is similar to Kerry because she's smart and speaks well "

As John Spencer proved in last night's debates, Hillary is not as smart as she thinks she is, and she doesn't speak well at all.

She flunked the DC Bar after all, and was rejected by MENSA.

The heavy pancake makeup and drooping eyes are the equivalent of Botox.

This is good news for our side in more ways than one. If she did that badly, just wait until someone like Mitt Romney, Mike Pence or, God forbid, John McCain gets her in a Presidential Debate.

I hope C-SPAN does a replay of last night's debate.

Well, here's the thing - it is like a boxing match, where the underdog cannot land a solid hit, but there is just a little cut above his opponent's eye, he just keeps working and working on that little cut, pretty soon it is streaming. Enough so, that vision in that eye is obscured a little, by the blood gushing, and some of it is starting to sting the eye. In between rounds, the trainer in the opponent's corner can staunch a little of the blood, and get his guy back out there at the bell, but now, the opponent is protecting that eye, and not giving full attention to delivering the punishment back to the underdog. The defense shifts, leaving a vulnerability below. Suddenly, there is an opening, and the underdog sends one to the solar plexus, which floors the opponent, but not down for the count. The contest has now shifted somewhat, and the sure loser is no longer so far behind on points.

The underdog might still lose, but the opponent has been shown to be vulnerable, and that will plague the next rounds. And no matter who the next match-up will be with, that vulnerability will be out there for everybody to see.

CSPAN was supposed to carry the debate, time delayed. It is not on their website, however.
