On Friday night, Hillary Clinton finally had to face an unscripted, uncontrolled media event -- a debate with her feisty opponent John Spencer, the Republican candidate for Senator from New York this year.
Spencer pinned her ears back with his opening statement when he declared: "I am the only person here who really wants to be the Senator from New York .... she wants to be president."

Does anyone have screencaps?
Exactly, we're talking about New York after all.
Can someone PLEASE Tivo this? Someone in the know could post screencaps with a transcription of important zingers, etc. Also could be useful footage to make our own campaign commercials for YouTube!
I'm tech challenged, unfortunately.
What a loon. MRS BILL CLINTON is not proposing that we change generals, she is proposing we change Commander in Chief---a vastly different proposition.
Does she actually believe that the Civil War would have been prosecuted the way it was, and reached the end it did, if, instead of changing generals, the country had turned its back on Lincoln/s vision, resolve and persistence and instead voted in a cut=and-run Democrat?
Also Lincoln changed generals because these officers were ineffective. Neither our generals nor our national command authority is ineffective. Lincoln NEVER changed his vision of the war; he constantly sought to find officers who would IMPLEMENT his vision of the war and his vision of the peace for a united country.
Just as today, there were many during the Civil War who advocated giving up on the Union. This---NOT what Lincoln modeled---is what MRS BILL CLINTON advocates when she makes such arguments.
Plus she shows her ignorance.
Debate beginning now on C-Span 1!
I think McCain, Romney, and Allen could all beat her if they run a good campaign and run to the right of Hillary on domestic issues: taxes, abortion, gay marriage, etc. I'm not so sure about Giuliani and I have doubts that he will run for POTUS. If he was going to run for Prez, then why didn't he run against Hillary this year to see if he could beat her and knock her out of the race? I wouldn't underestimate the personality factor: Kerry is aloof sometimes but he has a reasonably pleasant, friendly personality. Hillary tends to be abrasive as well as aloof and a lot of voters are going to be tired of listening to her after a year of campaigning. IMO, all the GOP candidates are way ahead of her in the personality and charm category.
But I also think the unprecedented event of a woman candidate would add a major element of unpredictability to the race and make it harder to predict with any certainty.
Just watched debate. Wish I still lived in NY so I could vote for Spencer. This guy tells it like it is.....at least he did so tonight. We need more of this......caring about the country first.
Seems RNC hasn't given Spencer a lot of support. Maybe had they done so early on and given this guy a statewide audience.....maybe he'd have had a chance. Hillary didn't look too good tonight.
I just caught the rerun.......Spencer looked good, Hillary should have been more polished, but did better than Morris implies. Wish she had looked much worse.
Thanks for this link. Just listening and that stupid handshake and hello from piaps is enough to make me lol!!
What a dork!
Oh my..."risky sheme" gag me!!
The witch could never handle an unscripted, uncontrolled media event? Without a script and handlers, this woman (and I use that term loosely) is nothing! Except in New York where voters don't think.......
btt
On a few occassions, Mrs. Clinton opened her mouth and Spencer put her foot in it. I think he did a good job.
She didn't look too good, but I would have preferred her running from the podium screaming and tearing out her hair. This country can't stand 'Clintons' in the White House again and that's exactly where she thinks she's headed.
I watched the introductions by the moderator, on C-SPAN, and noticed that the audience gave Hillary a much louder and more enthusiastic round of applause when she came onto the stage than they had given her challenger. Then I turned back to the World Series game--listening to Hillary will be bad enough if and when she gets to be President, but for now I can avoid it.
"Here's the exchange of words."
This is a perfect example of why she will not win in the primaries for president in 2008. She is a very weak speaker and not nearly likable enough. Yes, she has the MSM behind her and a lot of money, but it's going to become real clear in the primaries that she cannot be elected president and the 'rat fat cats will torpedo her campaign early on.
You're right. Hillary looked shifty-eyed and uncomfortable. Get her off her script, and she's done.
You should really give it a watch if it's on again. Ignore the audience and the moderators. Spencer really took it to Hillary and got some truth out. It was a beautiful thing. I'm not saying he'll win. Not even. But he spoke truth to liberals and I was thrilled.
Her hairdo looks too stark and butch.
Hillary loses the debate. And that would matter why?
It would be really nice for the underdog to win this senate seat.
After watching this debate, I am not so sure that Hillary can make it through the primaries. She can only win if it is an out and out coronation.
A few more debates like this, and everyone will see that she is a PIAPS. and an empty suit at that.
