The US Republican Party has launched a controversial terror-linked TV advertisement to bolster support ahead of mid-term elections next month. The footage shows al-Qaeda leaders with captions of threatening statements, while the soundtrack of a ticking bomb plays in the background.
The advertisement, which ends with the sound of a bomb exploding, is due to air from Sunday.
Democrats have hit out at the commercial, calling it scaremongering.
US voters go to the polls on 7 November to elect members of Congress.
Republicans have made a tough stance on terrorism a major part of their campaign strategy.
... A statement on the Democratic National Committee website called the advertisement "a desperate ploy to once again try to scare voters and distract from their failures".

"Republicans are so afraid of their abysmal record they can't offer one example of what they've done to keep America safe," the response said.

I think this will be seen by many as just scare-mongering. What the RNC needs to do is to take the statements by the terrorists and play them back to back with the Democrats... THAT would make a significant point.

Yeah... but they are the ones scared. They lose when we take over the campaign issues and focus on national security, instead of domestic socialism.
We are gonna spank them on November 7th.

I'm all for showing videos of people jumping from the top floors of the WTC since the dems seem to have forgotten those innocent victims of terror.

It's a great ad. At the end it just says, "VOTE". Doesn't even say "vote republican"!
Liberals are stupid if they call that a scare tactic.
If they're the ones afraid for folks to think about their record for or against these terror thugs, too bad.

What are the Donkey's crying about?
At lest the Republicans didn't put Pelosi, Reid, & Rangel's face on the screen with Bach's Prelude and Fugue in F minor in the background.
Or they could have shown Abscam photos of Murtha fading into photos from his lovefest with Code Pink, with the Communist Internationale playing in the background.
Or, how about Photos of Bawney Fwank and Gerry Studds holding hands with their "husbands" and boyfriends, photos of headlines of Studd's rape of the pageboy fading into photos of him turning his back on the House when they censured him, all the while playing "Lavender Blue" fading into a selection from the Village People.
I wish they'd hire me to do their ads.

I agree. But you cover the whole logical sequence, which is what the GOP should do also, a logical sequence that should be pursued.
The Dems claim they will be just as effective in fighting the war on terror. The GOP should use their own statements showing they are not. The GOP had a "white flag" ad a few months ago on their site, using clips of the Dems, indicting them with their own word, but pulled the ad, because the Dems complained. That was ridiculous.
They should resurrect that ad, and as you say, play this to show how serious the threat it, show what Republicans have been doing and are doing to prevent another attack, and show the Dems in their own words trying to stop the measures that protect us, and promote surrender to the terrorists.

I wish I felt that certain. Republicans may need every trick in the book come November. Remember Johnson's televised Anti-Goldwater "Bombing-the-little-girl" ad? It stunk; but it worked. This doesn't, but let's hope it will.

Democrats have hit out at the commercial, calling it scaremongering. Senator Goldwater must be laughing his ass off.

Sorry. Can't see the ad from here... firewall. The write-up didn't make it sound like that. I'm glad they're doing that then... go get 'em!
