Obama Not Ready for Prime Time: Iran, Syria Should 'Take Ownership for Stability' of Iraq
MSNBC-Countdown/NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 10/21/2006 6:31:39 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

I DVD'ed Olbermann overnight to check just how fawning of a performance Keith would put in with his guest Barack Obama - whom FCC regulations require me to describe as "the rising star of the Democratic party." When it came to Olbermann's sycophancy, I wasn't disappointed. After accusing Republicans of "terrorizing" Americans, the MSNBC host continued:

"proposing an alternative course for American politics, one that replaces fear with - of all things - hope, Senator Barack Obama of Illinois and his new book, The Audacity of Hope."

The toughest question Olbermann posed to his guest, touted as a possible 2008 presidential nominee, is why Obama would want to be president given the awful legacy he would be inheriting from George Bush. An indulgent Obama gave Keith a verbal pat on the head, congratulating him on his "good question."

But all the fluff aside, I was stunned by something Obama said. Describing his proposal for a phased withdrawal from Iraq, Obama added that it would:

"send a message to the Iraqis as well as to the regional powers including Iran and Syria that they have to take some ownership for creating some stability there."

What? Obama's plan is to turn Iraq over to the tender mercies of Iran and Syria? And just what kind of "stability" does he imagine that would produce?

Barack might be the Golden Boy of the MSM, but with that one statement, he demonstrated that he is not ready for prime time, letting alone for becoming Commander-in-Chief.

Aside: what does it say of Barack's ambition and ego that the photo displayed here comes from his official senatorial web site?

That is positively stupid. I thought Joe Biden was the stupidest member of the US Senate but looks like he is going to be facing some competition

Obama can speak? I have never heard him say a word. Just shots of him standing, tall and handsome, with a smirk on his face. Looks are enough for most dims, I know some who would vote for Hillary for president because they think she is beautiful and they have been told she is the smartest woman in the world.

Reminds me of when Andrew Young, Carter representative to the UN said Cuban troops in Angola fighting in that civil war were a "stablizing influence".

Wow, these guys are dumb.

He just means the Vietnam solution. US pulls out under Rat direction, bad guys come in and kill a few million people and put the rest in jail. Dems soar to power and live happily ever after, with a warm inner glow at having delivered another hundred million people from the ravages of capitalist republicans into the glorious dictatorship of the international proletariat.

I still fail to see how Barack Obama would win the presidency. He is of course, educated, articulate and very gifted, but all of these qualities are just a thin layer of veneer covering the same-old unelectable Walter Mondale/Jimmy Carter far-left hippie-liberal cut-and-run ideology.

"send a message to the Iraqis as well as to the regional powers including Iran and Syria that they have to take some ownership for creating some stability there."

That's the standard liberal approach - send a message.

Well, yes, Obama, it will send a message all right to Syria and Iran. The message will be that they won and now are boss dogs in the region. And that is NOT the message any sane person wants to send.

If you give him the benefit of the doubt (which I'm not sure I do), this could be diplo-speak for "Iran and Syria are to blame for the current instability" and they will be involved in the solution one way or another, at the very least by stopping sending in terrorists and supplies.

Living in the Chicago area, I can assure you, the media here let's us hear a LOT of Obama speaking. While glib and well spoken, his rhetoric would no doubt get a standing "O" from the likes of Kennedy, Kerry, Pelosi, Marx, Engels and Chairman Mao.

He is not a "pinko" liberal, he is a full fledged socialist, one world government advocate, poised just this side of a "people's revolution." There is nothing of his substance that reminds one of anything close to capitalism, the constitution or a free society as we traditionally think of it.

"Newspeak", comin' atcha - 22 years late.

In some ways he reminds me of Clinton in how he can BS

But when he has to talk seriously about a subject .. he is a cross between Kerry, Biden and a few other dem nit wits

Dang. I would have asked him if he thought Lincoln should have said to the South, "Okay, the north gives up... feel free to be separate Confederate states and do as you wish... forget about that old slavery thing and freedom, it was a crazy idea and we made a mistake letting former slaves come here"; "By the way, northern blacks... in the interest of your brothers and sisters (they're your people), you also go back south with the slavemasters, you have experience with some freedom, jobs and contributing in fighting for the north... we had great hopes for you up here... but face the facts, you are black and we don't think you can do anything better, so we think you should let the slavemasters rule over you as well... maybe you can help them with reform and it will help the agricultural economy for not just the south... but the whole country."

So obviously sarcasm/

He is white. Look at any photograph.

That's why he is tolerated in the upper echelons of the Democratic Party.

SCOTUS Justice Clarence Thomas, on the other hand, has a very dark skin and is loathed by the racists in the Democratic Party.

Obama sounds like the perfect leftist to me. The left has supported and fantasized about Castro for years. Many have heralded Hugo Chavez. After all, ceding power to heads of states that oppress their people is what the left is all about.

I feel the same way. He's probably even smoother than Clinton, and he's more articulate. But whatever differences the two have, they resemble each other, and others like Kerry and Gore, in one important way - despite appearances to the contrary, there's an absence of truth to what they say.
