Rep Harman reportedly under investigation
The Washington Times ^ | 20 October 2006 | NA

The U.S. Justice Department is trying to determine whether Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., got improper help from an Israeli lobbying group. Harman of California is the senior Democrat on the House intelligence committee. Time Magazine reports she may have received a boost from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee when Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wanted to remove her from the committee. Harman left a voice mail for the magazine calling any suggestions of improper conduct "irresponsible, laughable and scurrilous." She has retained Ted Olson, the lawyer who formerly served as President George W. Bush's solicitor general.

I hadn't read that it was her aide, only that she was upset about Hoekstra's actions. Who said it was her aide?

I was watching John Gibson's program on Fox yesterday, and his stand in host had Hoekstra on the show.

She (I don't know her name) asked the chairman to verify that they had the suspect's name right. She gave the man's name (which I don't remember), and I am pretty sure that she also mentioned Harman's name along with his.

She basically asked the chairman if he could confirm or deny that the man was the one laid off from his position. The chairman too a deep breath and basically said, "I will neither confirm nor deny" that is his name.

That was just legalese that he had to follow, I guess.

Funny these liberals are -

When they are in trouble, they call a conservative (Olson) to help them.

Olsen's wife also apparently saw Hillary's "Secret" Thesis and wrote about it in a book. A freeper mentioned it on a string.....someplace.

"The aide was identified by other congressional officials as Larry Hanauer. The officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of a pending investigation into the leak, said Hanauer had held positions with the departments of Defense and Homeland Security before joining the professional staff of Democrats on the House intelligence panel about two years ago."

"The document he requested — on behalf of committee member John F. Tierney (D-Mass.),"

she was talking to her husband on her cell phone. The story tore my heart out, but at least they did get the chance to say good-bye.
No worries, I over 44 myself, (I think, if I remember right) Didn't mean to pile on with the post, missed that 2 more posted right before me.

Have a great weekend!

Help me understand; what was Tierney's alleged role?

Is he a possible co-consrpirator with Hanauer?

Is it that maybe Tierney is being though of as being the real power and motivation behind the leak/s?

The article says that the aide requested the NIE document on behalf of Tierney. You can make whatever conclusions you want.

More info on the aide on this thread, including the following:

From Stata-Sphere comments:

http://www.strata-sphere.com/blog/

Mr. Hanauer, 34, is a consultant on homeland security and intelligence issues at Booz Allen Hamilton, the consulting firm in McLean, Va. He graduated magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania and received a master’s degree in international relations from Tufts. From 1995 to 2003, Mr. Hanauer was a foreign policy adviser in the office of the Secretary of Defense, working primarily on Middle Eastern and European security issues.

also,

Larry Hanauer did a stint on the staff of NY Rep Joseph Crowley, giving Hanauer a NY connection and probably press contacts with the NY Times. Crowley’s official site is here. So that establishes a path to the NY news media.

This gets even more interesting. Harmon has hired Ted Olsen and her aide as hired none other than Jonathan Turley!:

I did just hear on Fox News that Jonathan Turley (YUCK) will be representing Mr. Hanauer!!

She is my rep as I live in her district. She has always been pretty moderate and not the typical demo moonbat. I thought it was strange when the leak came out that she was all over it demanding even more documents should be released.

There is a war going on over military procurements and that is why Rumsfeld is hated so much, he wants to scrap some major weapon systems and go in another direction.

It might be easier to list who on the Hill is NOT under investigation...

I do hope that Harman wasn't a part of the "Bush knew," "It's Bush's fault" crowd, because I wouldn't be able to understand why Olsen would work for someone who blames the Administration that Oslen worked for for the death of his wife.
