Rep Harman reportedly under investigation
The Washington Times ^ | 20 October 2006 | NA

The U.S. Justice Department is trying to determine whether Rep. Jane Harman, D-Calif., got improper help from an Israeli lobbying group. Harman of California is the senior Democrat on the House intelligence committee. Time Magazine reports she may have received a boost from the American Israel Public Affairs Committee when Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi wanted to remove her from the committee. Harman left a voice mail for the magazine calling any suggestions of improper conduct "irresponsible, laughable and scurrilous." She has retained Ted Olson, the lawyer who formerly served as President George W. Bush's solicitor general.

At last it looks like the Republicans have learned how the game is played.

Interesting.

The libs and the media tried to bank all their chips on the Foley issue. In the meantime, it is becoming evident that their own house of cards is crumbling.

Olson told Time Harman did not know of any investigation but decided to retain him after news reports of a probe.

A bit quick on the trigger, wouldn't you say? Why worry if you've done nothing wrong?

If I were a lawyer in D.C., I'd buy some good advertising, hire a couple people to walk around with a camera and microphone to ask government officals, "Do you have any comments about the probe?", and watch the cash flow in.....

OK...now I'm confused...

Ted Olson is a good lawyer and I bet you Ms. Harman is paying a pretty penny for his legal advice.

Well, Harmon is a multi-millionairess--and lawyers go where the money is, not necessarily where morally compatible clients are. Olsen knows how to hold his nose . . . Regards . . . Penny

From your link:

A congressional source tells TIME that the lobbbying for Harman has included a phone call several months ago from entertainment industry billionaire and major Democratic party contributor Haim Saban. A Saban spokeswoman said he could not be reached for comment. A phone call pushing for a particular member's committee assignment might be unwelcome, but it would not normally be illegal on its own. And it is unclear whether Saban — who made much of his fortune with the Mighty Morphin Power Rangers children's franchise — knew that lobbying Pelosi might be viewed by others as part of a larger alleged plan.

Saban has donated at least $3,000 to Harman's campaign, according to Federal Election Commission records, and the Saban Center for Middle East Policy, which he sponsors at the prestigious Brookings Institution, boasts Harman among its biggest fans. "When the Saban Center talks, I listen," Harman said at a Saban Center briefing in February on U.S. strategy in Iraq. Harman quipped that, in order to attend the session at Brookings, she had to "blow off" a senior intelligence official's appearance before a House committee.

This is bizarre. It will cause consternation among liberals who think Israel controls the Republicans. That is when Saudi Arabia isn't. I think it depends on the day of the week. She is the richest person in the House, and isn't as bad as some of the Dems on Nat Security (which isn't saying much). This is the third news or fourth "negative" event I've heard of her this week (wealth, NIE leak, AIPAC).

I don't think the MSM has seen hide nor hair of Harman since this story broke. Maybe she's in her "counting house, counting out her money".

""""South Bay Rep. Jane Harman is the richest member of the House of Representatives, according to a new, searchable online database ranking the wealth of congressional members.

The El Segundo Democrat, married to multimillionaire audio-equipment manufacturer Sidney Harman, has a net worth in excess of $168 million, and likely much more than that.""""
