A year later, France fears renewed unrest

EPINAY-SUR-SEINE, France. When the call came about a car burglary in this raw suburb north of Paris one night last weekend, three officers in a patrol car rushed over, only to find themselves surrounded by 30 youths in hoods throwing rocks and swinging bats and metal bars.

Neither tear gas nor stun guns stopped the assault. Only when reinforcements arrived did the siege end. One officer was left with broken teeth and in need of 30 stitches to his face.

The attack was rough but not unique. In the past three weeks alone, three similar assaults on the police have occurred in these suburbs that a year ago were aflame with the rage of unemployed, undereducated youths, most of them the offspring of Arab and African immigrants.

In fact, with the anniversary of those riots approaching in the coming week, spiking statistics for violent crime across the area tell a grim tale of promises unkept and attention unpaid. Residents and experts say that fault lines run even deeper than before and that widespread violence could flare up again at any moment.

"Tension is rising very dramatically," said Patrice Ribeiro, the deputy head of the Synergie-Officiers police union. "There is the will to kill." The anger of the young is reflected in the music popular in the suburbs. In her latest album, the female rap singer Diam's accuses Interior Minister Nicholas Sarkozy of being a "demagogue" and the police of hypocrisy. The rapper Booba proclaims that "Maybe it would be better to burn Sarko's car," while Alibi Montana, another rapper, warns Sarkozy, "Keep going like that and you're going to get done."

Don't tell me, let me guess: the muzzies...er, "disenfranchised youths" in the projects are upset over something.

The article read, "...only to find themselves surrounded by 30 youths in hoods throwing rocks and swinging bats and metal bars."

I am so almighty tired of the euphemism 'youths' to describe Islamic thugs using bats and bricks because they couldn't get their slimy hands on guns and bombs. Whenever I see the word 'youths' in a violent context anymore, I know without reading further that the 'youths' in question are probably named Mohammad or Achmed. This delicacy of phrasing is pathetic beyond measure.

Today's rock throwers and rioters are tomorrow's suicide murderers. If they do the liberal pat on the head thing, this will escalate into disaster.

The New York Times NEVER describes them as "Muslim." The euphemism "youth" is so Orwellian in describing the situation within France.

"Show me just what Mohammed brought that was new, and there you will find things only evil and inhuman, such as his command to spread by the sword the faith he preached." -Manuel II Paleologus

Of course there will be more problems: they haven't expelled the throat-slitters.

In France:

unemployed, undereducated youths, most of them the offspring of Arab and African immigrants.

In Canada:

"They represent the broad strata of our society. Some are students, some are employed, some are unemployed."

....Neither tear gas nor stun guns stopped the assault....

Maybe it's time they picked up some of those real rifles they dropped during WWII and started using them....

These muslim riots in France have never stopped, actually. The media just quit reporting them for a while. They have been nearly continuous.

Well, I've pretty much assumed that France has become the Islamic Republic of France now.....I never really was fond of France since they pulled out from actively supporting NATO anyway. Truthfully, if it were just France that became Islamic, I don't think I'd care much. But that's not the case; Muslims have permeated the society of every European country. The most popular baby boys' names in most of the European countries is "Mohammed." That should tell you what's going to happen....

French 'police' need to start carrying shotguns and learn how to use them. Some street thug swings a bat at you, you give him a rifle butt in the face. If that doesnt work then you shoot the miscreant. The crowd would have scattered instantly if the first 3 cops had done this.

Ditto. The fact that the initial police unit was trapped was directly attributable to the fact they didn't have/wouldn't use deadly force. If the French won't unnecessary force, they will be overrun.

Stun guns and tear gas??

What pathetic, cowardly wimps.

Don't French police carry weapons? Shoot the bastards, unleash the option of death and get the inevitable confrontation over with.

Until the "French" do that, kick them out of NATO, since it's obvious they haven't the guts or balls to fight. Who could ever count on them?!

Were those three cops unable to reach for their guns? Is an attack with bars not considered deadly? Or are they too PC now to meet force with force?
