Glaciers in the Himalayas have not drastically shrunk despite global warming and are unlikely to melt away in coming decades, a Chinese scientist said.

Zhang Wenjing, glacier expert at the Chinese Academy of Sciences, discounted previous forecasts that glaciers across western China could disappear in decades or the Himalayan glaciers could melt away 50 years, Xinhua news agency reported.

"Those predictions may be excessively pessimistic," he said. "So far glaciers in the middle and eastern part of the Himalayas have not shrunk on any large scale."

The glaciers just haven't seen Gore's movie yet.

Those glaciers are the source of water for many of the region's main rivers: the Indus; Ganges; Mekong; and at least one of the two primary Chinese rivers, the Yangtze or Hu. Also, while one part of Antarctica's ice covering is supposed to be shrinking, the other part is supposed to be growing. There is still a lot that is not very understood.

Such insolence! Al Gore will have them sent to a re-education camp straight away.

It's because all the Yeti wear special tinfoil hats that reflect the heat back into the atmosphere.

I'm an armchair glacial preservation scientist and that's my theory and I'm sticking with it, for at least 24 hours.

This is a funny one. So, obviously GW is a fact, and every bit of evidence to the contrary which seems to quietly come out almost weekly is presented as just another anomaly.

The general public believes that global warming has been proven without a doubt, because of videos showing polar bears on a little piece of ice and that slice of glacier that falls into the ocean. Yet journalists keep reporting on contrary evidence and still insist the debate is over.

Maybe Al Gore should go stand on a glacier naked...then you'd see some shrinkage...

Either that or they are made of a different kind of ice.
It couldn't because all this global warming talk is B.S.
and glaciers shink and grow in cycles that are controlled by the sun and other things beyond our uderstanding and control.

It is rather funny to see these 'global warming' idiots try to control the climate, like the moron who tried to grow ice with snow machines (like they use at ski resorts) in the artic circle to regenerate the ice they claim has melted.

That guy obviously thinks the world is very small, and that he could actually make a difference.
I wonder at what point he realized the fuel he was burning in his attempt was only making things worse.

Some mothers do have 'em.

Those polar bear ads were the biggest piece of blatant fraud I've ever seen. They still make me mad just thinking about them. Those enviro wienies should have been charged for harrasing wildlife with a helecopter, chasing and worrying them like that. Otherwise, polar bears always play on ice flows, it's what they do when the seals migrate into the bay and have their pups. Plus, seal isn't all polar bears eat. Do those enviro wienies expect people to believe polar bears only eat one month out of the year?

They spend the rest of their time on the tundra, eating what ever they can catch there, lame elk, muskox, migratory game, rabbits, and scub- berries, bugs, etc. just like all bears do.

But I guess they have plenty of suckers that send them money, and keep those unemployable hippies living in the lap of luxury and well supplied with pot.

The reason is obvious. These are socialist glaciers, which are plainly superior to those evil capitalist pig glaciers. Their inherent superiority makes them immune from the effects of global warming.

Take that Mr. Bush, and all of your neo-con, theo-con, mind-numbed robots.

This is of course, sarcasm, but you knew that, didn't you??

I will second that unless the glaciers should all melt during that 24 hour period.
