A Local Football League Caught in Controversy (After further review-No facemask says coach & league)
WKRC ^ | 10/20/06 | stakk

A local football league is threatening legal action over a video posted on the popular U-Tube internet site.

The video shows an incident between Mason Youth Football Coach Darrell Boreing and 9-year-old wide receiver Ricky Demann.

The Demann family admits Ricky struck his quarterback with both fists on the shoulder pads for not passing him the ball.

During a time out -- the Demanns contend Coach Boreing - who is also the quarterback's father -- grabbed Ricky by the facemask and spun him around.

They say the Mason Youth Football Board isn't handling the incident properly -- so they put the video on the internet for others to see.

The Board issued a statement tonight claiming the Demanns edited the video so it is not shown in context.

The video maintains Coach Boreing grabbing Ricky's jersey -- and does not show the boy throwing his helmet and mouthpiece.

The Board says it is exploring legal options to deal with what it calls "defamatory and libelous comments."

they also were looking at the video on U-tube

Of course but it was set up by the words"jacked up" and "abused" by the mom and poster here. This happened a month ago and both of those people knew that the league had investigated and found that the facemask was not touched. But they sullied Boreing's reputation and encouraged people to disrupt his job, anyway.

The coach and the league fight back.

Following those meetings, our Board President and Coach Boreing ...

Looks like the coach and the league are one and the same ...

Send the case to the jury and let them watch the video over and over and over again up close.

the league had investigated

Like saying the DNC investigated allegations that Democrat staffers leaked national security secrets to the NYT ...

The great thing about this forum (unlike DU) is that reasonable minds as ours are free to disagree. It's a great day for football. Enjoy the games you officiate.

Doug Bruser, an assistant coach on Boreing's staff, was at the game and blasted the league's public response. "I'm disgusted by their statement. They seem to take on an attack of a 9-year-old boy, and that is deplorable," Bruser said. "The video is indisputable, and they didn't address the core issue in their statement. I'm very disappointed with the way Mason Youth Football has handled this." Boreing has declined numerous requests to comment.

Another witness and coach on Boreing's staff condemns the attack on a 9 year old boy

More witnesses come forward ...

Lisa Dennehy's son plays on the team and says she witnessed the incident. Almost as disturbing as the incident itself, she said, has been Boreing's lack of apology.

"Nobody is perfect. However, I do question his judgment not only on the initial encounter with Ricky but with his subsequent reaction to the matter," Dennehy said.

Brigitte Pelletier's son also was on the field. She said the video left her "sick to my stomach."

"It could have been any of our kids. The league has not contacted the parents, and they have not investigated this properly," Pelletier said.

Yep, we know how the girls feel. I didn't expect such a feminine response from the men here, however.

He's wrong about two things. The video posted here is open to interpretation and not indisputable. Secondly, the league did address what has become the core issue. The face mask. They say it was clear from the tape they saw that the jersey was held not the face mask.

He may be right about the league coming down too hard on the kid. I don't know that all of that was necessary.

Enjoy the games you officiate.

It is a wonderful day for football and baseball (Go Tigers). You may have me confused with another poster on the officiating. I do referee tiffs between my teenagers, though. ;~)

Says he

"Doug Bruser, an assistant coach on Boreing's staff, was at the game ..."

The video shows two other coaches on Boreing's team that approached Boreing when they saw something was not right. I assume Assistant Coach Bruser was one of them.
