Republicans took a page from President Johnson's Cold War-era presidential campaign with an advertisement set to air this weekend called "The Stakes," which prominently features al Qaeda leaders threatening to kill Americans.
The advertisement, which is available on the Republican National Committee Web site, is scheduled to run on national news networks Sunday.
The Democratic National Committee issued a statement saying the new Republican ad was an attempt to distract voters from GOP failures.
Republicans contend otherwise and say the ad "underscores the high stakes America faces in the global war on terror by using the words of the terrorists themselves as they describe their intention towards the United States," according to a statement.

Glad to hear they are going to run it on TV. The quotes used in the ad are true. The terrorists do want to kill us all.
I wish they would also run the "white flag" ad they had on the internet a year or so ago, which used the Democrats own words to show that their "solution" to the war on terror is surrender.
It's amazing how using the very words of terrorists can cause such outrage from Dems.
Reminds me of when Democrats cared about America. Harry Truman was told to give em hell and he responded I just tell the truth and they think it is hell.
Truth hurts..
That means the ad will work.
If you're catching flak, you're over the target.
IT doens't take much to outrage democrats, only sightly more than it takes to outrage jihadists.
(The Democratic National Committee issued a statement saying the new Republican ad was an attempt to distract voters from GOP failures.)
The DNC is outraged that the GOP will use the war on terror to distract the voters from much more important things such as the Foley scandal!
Beautifully said
Ann Coulter says "You want to make liberals angry? Defend America." Amen.
Exactly.
The DNC might want to put some ice on that.
Wonderful ad.
Especially since the Terrorists are only repeating Democrat talking points in the first place....
I can't understand why the GOP has already put the ad on the site.
Perhaps they meant a DemocRATic Fuhrer.
This is a shameless attempt to inflict fear into the American population before the November 7th elections. We demand the immediate withdrawl of this propaganda.
Not real, but certainly believable.
