Blunt on Intel Leak
U.S. Newswire ^

Posted on 10/20/2006 10:28:25 AM PDT by zippy the razor

WASHINGTON, Oct. 20 /U.S. Newswire/ -- House Majority Whip Roy Blunt (Mo.) today issued the following statement on the suspension of a Democrat House Intel Committee staffer pending review of the possibility that the staffer illegally leaked sensitive intelligence to The New York Times:

"We are a nation at war and intelligence is one of the most valuable tools we have to fight terrorists. Intelligence should never be used as a political weapon.

"It is absolutely necessary that the House Intel Committee conduct a thorough review of the illegal leak of intelligence to The New York Times in war time. I support Chairman Hoekstra's decision to suspend a staffer who may have orchestrated the leak until all the facts are known.

"I hope Democrats would never knowingly and illegally leak sensitive information just to score political points. And that's what an investigation would determine. I would expect anyone who is found to have illegally leaked such information to be terminated from government employment and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

"The safety and security of the American people is too important to risk with partisan political games."

What I'd like to know is WHY people like me and others, who actually work and do our jobs that require security clearances take good care to not F anything up and still have to wait years to get our clearances renewed/investigated, yet any pimply faced Congressional staffer can have theirs in 5 months and then leak things....

It's frustration speaking....

Because you are one of us lowly creatures that DO things.

They however are one of the shakers that don't do a dang thing except drain our tax dollars.

I love the feigned outrage over the "treasonous leaking of intelligence information". The OUTRAGE!..You know what? You want peoples attention? Then bring someone to trial, push for the death penalty and then execute them on Pay Per View. Otherwise shut up and raise our taxes.

Sorry: it's a bad habit. When I quit smoking cigars, perhaps I'll give up my sanity, too. ;-)

I heard the Dims replied, "The report was classified as *Secret* not *Top Secret* and We should hold judgement before blaming the staffer" Depends on how you define *Secret*.

Hmmmmmm, lots of google hits for larry....Kos, Truthout, Mother Jones etc.

Profile: Larry Hanauer
Positions that Larry Hanauer has held:
Pentagon employee at the Pentagon's Near East South Asia (NESA) desk
Larry Hanauer actively participated in the following events:
Shortly after January 20, 2001 Shortly after George W. Bush is inaugurated, “[k]ey personnel, long-time civilian professionals” at the Pentagon’s Near East South Asia (NESA) desk are moved or replaced with people from neoconservative think tanks. [American Conservative, 12/1/2003; Mother Jones, 1/2004 Sources: Karen Kwiatkowski] Joe McMillan, the Office Director, is moved to a new location outside of the Pentagon, which according to Karen Kwiatkowski, who works at the NESA desk, is odd because “the whole reason for the Office Director being a permanent civilian (occasionally military) professional is to help bring the new appointee up to speed, ensure office continuity, and act as a resource relating to regional histories and policies.” [American Conservative, 12/1/2003; Mother Jones, 1/2004; Salon, 3/10/2004 Sources: Karen Kwiatkowski] Larry Hanauer, who has long been at the Israel-Syria-Lebanon desk and who is known to be “even-handed with Israel,” is replaced by David Schenker of the Washington Institute. [American Conservative, 12/1/2003; Mother Jones, 1/2004 Sources: Karen Kwiatkowski] Other veteran NESA employees who are banished include James Russell, who has served as the country director for Saudi Arabia, Kuwait and the United Arab Emirates, and Marybeth McDevitt, the country director for Egypt. [Mother Jones, 1/2004]

Looks like Hanauer is a disgruntled Israel-hater who was booted from his intel post prior to the Iraq war. Looks like Hanauer is going to be doing some hard time in prison if he's the leaker.

Of important note is that the document was classified TS. Larry only has a Secret. Whoever gave the document to him is in DEEP sh@t. Could it have been his boss? She has a TS.

The standard trick is to give a suspected spy/leaker a slightly modified version of the document, so as to track the paper trail. If they did this, they have him and/or his guilty asociate(s) stone-cold.

Larry Hanauer might actually also be a mole/source for Pat Buchanan. Interesting...
