U.S. intelligence has detected the departure from a North Korean port of a North Korean ship suspected of carrying military equipment banned under a U.N. sanctions resolution against Pyongyang's Oct. 9 nuclear test, CBS News reported Thursday.
The United States is tracking the ship, CBS said, noting that it remains uncertain exactly what the ship is carrying and where it is headed.
Yep.

I suspect that other posters that feel it is a set up in which Kim hopes the ship is boarded are right. It does seem familiar to the early 1960's when we all expected a very nasty nuclear war. The Russians are so quiet that one has to suspect they are gaging their opportunities. I don't think the Chinese are yet ready for a shooting war with us but they may well be enjoying the problems Mr. Kim is causing the Japanese and ourselves. The South Korean government is clearly in an internal battle with the sunshiners wanting to celebrate the "achievements" of the north and most of the people going our direction.
+1
Torpedo ping!
How much will you bet DU think ROVE is orchestrating this...?
One U.S. military official said the ship had been known in the past to carry military equipment, but that the U.S. had no idea of the nature of its current cargo.
The ship left a port southwest of the North Korean capital of Pyongyang, the official said, speaking on condition of anonymity.
A second official with access to U.S. intelligence confirmed the ship had left port and was being tracked, but cautioned he was not aware of any evidence the ship was carrying contraband.
"It's not necessarily nefarious," the second official said.
Officials said it was unlikely the U.S. would attempt to board or inspect the ship on the high seas, because it had no evidence it was violating U.N. sanctions banning the export of material that could be used to make weapons of mass destruction.
But one official suggested the U.S. government would likely press for a full inspection of the ship's cargo once it puts into port.
I thought the same thing, except, why publicize the fact that we knew it. Oh wait, I forgot, American media is for the enemy.
Japan ping desu...
You obviously didn't get the memo that anything that the US Military does is both front page news and an outrage.
All speed ahead for the Persian Gulf and the "Mother" of all confrontations.
Gotta be Rove. I'll bet he has the con right now!
Well, well.. what will our President now?
I assume that we'll do the right thing here. But regardless of any UN resolution there'll be an outcry from numerous countries if we board or otherwise impede the progress of this ship.
In fact,it seems possible that our boarding the vessel could cause a very serious problem...because Kim Mentally Ill isn't *nearly* as sane or well balanced as was the Soviet leadership in '62.
Chinese coolies...
"Unidentified vessel off my starboard bow, this is the United States warship OMGWTFPWND, operating with the authorization of United Nations Security Council Resolution one seven one eight. Heave to and prepare to be boarded."
Just curious... does this mean they are tracking it physically with our ships, or just monitoring it on radar and what not. I am not a techy or military expert, so I apologize for the rookie question.
Sneaky little bastards aint they!
Or possibly somone at DIA/CIA was talking to Senator Depends...
I'd assumed they're tracking it via satellite.
