U.S. tracking N. Korean ship with banned military equipment: CBS News
Kyodo ^ | Oct 19

U.S. intelligence has detected the departure from a North Korean port of a North Korean ship suspected of carrying military equipment banned under a U.N. sanctions resolution against Pyongyang's Oct. 9 nuclear test, CBS News reported Thursday.

The United States is tracking the ship, CBS said, noting that it remains uncertain exactly what the ship is carrying and where it is headed.

What CBS is doing is portraying the Bush administration as adversarial to world diplomacy. They are subliminally saying that the Democrats would have never let it get this far.

Interesting thing that popped into my mind...

The NK's have a few decent subs in their order of battle...

Some fairly quiet diesel boats of Russian design (Kilo class I believe)...But they are trackable, and our best subs are like holes in the water, nearly impossible to track...

I bet the reason why we may not have already jumped on the ship is that we may not, or don't want to tip our hat that we have the means to take care of the ship, and any NK shadow it may have covering it, that may have a problem with us dealing with this situation...

Either way, there may be a couple of BOOMs when all is said and done...

Just something to think about...

Give everyone 5 minutes to jump ship and if it's a big boom then they probably had banned weapons.

"Does anybody doubt that Kim Jong Il wants a war? How do you negotiate with someone who wants a war? Answer: You don't. You wait until it's your time and place. I hope that we're picking the time and place right now if it comes to it."

I think he does want war now. When we begin seriously intercepting and boarding his ships this could be easily used as an excuse for war.

I doubt that Kim regrets anything, it's not in his character. He was slapped down by the Chinese and he regrets that his oil might be cut off.

It ended up being released to continue on to Yemen, IIRC. I think it had scuds.

If a NK ship had a work accident at sea, that would be too bad. Something on board must have blown up. Just something to think about.

I already said we should sink it, dippy. You're the one quaking in his boots at that thought.

My plan is IN-YOUR-FACE, Chia Head! And, what are you going to do about it, Chia Head? You can't prove squat.

Your plan is "oh, dear, let's powder our face and play policewoman and beg permission to go aboard" because apparently you're so fearful that something far worse than a General Assembly censure might happen, eeek! LOL

That appology is like telling someone your sorry you shot them in the foot. The bullet already left the gun, so sorry doesn't mean much.

Not exactly on topic and there isn't enough info to post a new thread about this, but a South Korean paper is reporting that in the North there is "movement at military bases to launch Rodong and Scud missiles".

http://english.chosun.com/w21data/html/news/200610/200610200005.html

This was also mentioned in an article on CNN a few hours ago which has now been editied with the paragraph removed. I believe it went along the lines of saying that two DoD officials had told CNN that satellites had detected movement at North Korean missile bases, but they weren't sure if it was an act of provocation or preperation for real launches.

I doubt they would help us in this situation since the
"Cargo" mite contain stuff that they supplied to NK.
What does NK have for export,? Is the ship carrying a Chinese cargo,?

I look at it like this...

If NK wants to jump off on SK, then that certainly is right in line with what they've been saying and wanting to do for as long as I can remember...

This issue has had its ups and downs for years...A lot longer than the current trend in the mid-east...

Kimmy boy has been trying to get attention in so many ways its almost pathalogic...

Like a little child with all sorts of adult toys...

There is no way to ignore the rantings and ravings of such a pathalogical personality, and the more you try, the more he stomps and screams...

So when the time comes, and the child crosses the line...The US, and whomever else wants to get in on the fun, can line up and spank the little heathen from here to Christmas...

This whole issue with the NK ship and the need to confirm whats onboard and where it "was" going is almost a moot point...The plan is in place, the people who are going to give us relief are ready to go...All they are waiting on is the word...

And when all is said and done if NK wants to protest and stomp their feet and set off a nuke in their own backyard to protest this action...

More power to you Kimmy...Irradiate your own yard...See what that does for ya...

Nothing...

It certainly is exciting to watch the festivities though!

One thing to keep in mind...

Back in December of 2002, just before we started on Iraq...

3 Chemical Parcel Tankers left an Iraqi port loaded (hull down) for somewhere unknown...

It was briefly reported on and quickly suppressed or not reported on again...And the status of the ships was never resolved or where they ended up ever reveiled...

Being extremely familiar with what the capabilities of a parcel tanker can do, and the coincidence of our desiring to lock down all of Iraq's WMD's...

I find this recent NK ship story to be very familiar and similar in how everyone is approaching the issue...

I bet we get one of the standard, "nothing to see here folks, move along!" in the near future...

I believe you are replying to the wrong person. I may have misunderstood your original statement. I outlined no plan, I merely pointed out that if one is scared by the possible consequences of an action, then the resulting inaction would tend to encourage the chia head to do something more radical the next time. I stand for action also so go easy on me.
I don't believe calling someone you don't know or understand names is appropriate for the debate here. Please examine the chain of posts that lead to your flaming rebuttal.

BTW...

It appears from what we have been told so far that this ship has been underway for 7 days???

Is there any positional data on it right now??? I know for a fact you can go a long way in 7 days...So maybe a "ocean" position could be had at the least...

If its in the I.O., thats pretty much a clear indication that this may get a lot of attention...

All I hear now is that we need to board, investigate, scuttle (regardless if we find anything bad on it), or just outright sink it...

I'd prefer to know exactly where it is now, in what direction it is heading, and then confirm what its carrying...

Then if it needs scuttling or sinking...So be it...

Won't burn my britches if it becomes a permanent Latitude and Longitude...

Yep,,I just heard the "7 days" myself,,,(FOX-NEWS)...
I wonder where it is now,,Has it stopped anywhere,?,,,
If it gets close to Yemen,They could board it like they have done in the past...We shall see...It must be getting close...
