U.S. intelligence has detected the departure from a North Korean port of a North Korean ship suspected of carrying military equipment banned under a U.N. sanctions resolution against Pyongyang's Oct. 9 nuclear test, CBS News reported Thursday.

The United States is tracking the ship, CBS said, noting that it remains uncertain exactly what the ship is carrying and where it is headed.

A recap of what we know....

* The ship left a port south west of the capital.
* Namp'o is the only major sea port in that region.
* The vessel is currently somewhere in the Yellow Sea.
* The ship has been used in the past to carry military equipment.

If this ship is carrying 'contraband', the North Koreans will scuttle the ship before they let us seize it. And then, when it's scuttled, NK will claim we 'unlawfully' sank their ship.

"It's not necessarily nefarious," the second official said.

We had better shot off a protest letter to the UN General Assembly ... one with many exclamation points at the end.

If that doesn't work then Bolton should go over to the NK ambassador and give him a good talking to ... including wagging his finger.

That should take care of the problem.

Kim Jong il can just STFU. He'll get more where this came from. Two words for the Chia Head:

PONG SU

D.P.R.K's H.E.S. (His Esteemed Shortness')Pong Su after hit by Royal Australian F-111s, on its way to Davy Jones' locker, earlier this year.

Whatever ship is stopped, they are bound to find phony $100 bills, amphetamines, kidnapped Japanese junior high school girls, or even weapons/WMDs.

I suspect CBS was intentionally tipped off.

We can just hope that little Kim is NOT (1)counting on our knowledge of that ship's history to (2)attract us to intercept it when (3)he intentionally has nothing banned in it this time and (4)just wants to create the incident to (a)"prove" his innocent intentions and (b)make future interceptions suspicious and possibly putting us under pressure from our "allies", the Chinese.

The mechanism that allows for inspection on the high seas is the U.S. Navy, and it's been that way since we've had a navy.

I suspect CBS was intentionally tipped off.

They were just the first to be tipped off. Both CNN and AFP have both been informed of this event by their own sources now. Clearly we wanted to get this out.

Depends, as they've both signed the NPT & NK withdrew from it. Proliferation is not in their national interests...

And if the ChiComs and Soviets aren't down with that, I've got 7 words for them; "Stick it where the sun don't shine."
