Dems to Use Moderation if They Win House
AP ^ | 10/19/6 | ANDREW TAYLOR

Posted on 10/19/2006 1:26:01 PM PDT by SmithL

They're mostly a liberal bunch. Yet the would-be chairmen in a House under Democratic control promise to rule from the center. They'd have little choice, given the likely balance of power they would confront if elected.

George W. Bush would still occupy the Oval Office, and no one thinks Democrats could win control of the House by more than a few seats next month. And that would include three dozen or more moderate "blue dog" Democrats.

The dynamics ensure that despite the overwhelmingly liberal cast of the chairmen-to-be — as measured by liberal interest groups such as Americans for Democratic Action — the early agenda would consist of bills that could garner Republican support.

Those include legislation to raise the minimum wage, empower the government to negotiate lower prescription prices from drug companies for the Medicare program and end tax breaks for companies that move U.S. jobs overseas.

"If we do take back the House, there will certainly be a Republican president and there may well be a Republican Senate, so we're well aware of the constraints," said Rep. Barney Frank, D-Mass. "But I think there are some things that we can put out that will put some pressure on: minimum wage, negotiating with drug companies."

What won't be seen is any serious move to impeach Bush, even though the top Democrat on the Judiciary Committee, Rep. John Conyers of Michigan, has introduced a bill calling on Congress to determine whether there are grounds for impeachment over the government's warrantless wiretapping program.

Conyers already has been overruled by Democratic leaders including would-be Speaker Nancy Pelosi of California, who dismiss any talk of impeachment.

Moderation in drugs or alcohol, graft, extortion, gay sex? Just what behavior do they intend to moderate?

This would really be news...

If it were true, that is.

Yeah right. Remember how Clinton and Gore promised to tax only the rich? Gradually, that definition was lowered to include more and more middle class taxpayers. Remember the words, "invest in America"? Remember how we were scolded, that everyone must do his "fair" share?

The Dems will say exactly what they have to, to get elected.

My mouth is hanging open from that snippet you posted.

Does it tick you off too when someone tries to tell you that black is white and up is down?

All the MSM is doing is pissing people off enough with the thought of Pelosi and Conyers that they will run out and vote Republican.

"Does it tick you off too when someone tries to tell you that black is white and up is down?"

In my neck of the woods we say, "Don't pi$$ down my back and tell me it's raining". That sums this article up IMO. What do I know, I'm just a knuckle-dragging country-boy. ;-)

Actually, I can't think of a single moderate Democrat. All the ones I can think of (including Joe Lieberman) believe in higher taxes, more government, partial-birth abortion, no parental notification, PC speech codes, affirmative action and race-bait politics, endlessly negotiating with terrorists and communists, promoting homosexuality and gay marriage, etc etc.

I haven't heard a single Democrat criticize Harry Reid's land deals, or give Republicans any credit for the good economy.

What do you consider a moderate Democrat ?

What is interesting, is the premise on which this article is written. That Democrats are inherently left-wing liberals (denied by dems), that Nancy Pelosi is the would-be speaker. (First time I've seen AP admit that) and they made fun of Rangel without even realizing it. This article would force a middle-of-the road voter to see that Democrats are inherently liberal and that Nancy Pelosi is about to be third in line to the Presidency, two negative things.

Thank you AP!

on a side note, why havent we ran ads with her face and a crazy spaz out by her saying..."TWO HEART BEATS AWAY?"

An ad or two nation wide about the MSM being Dem flackers could help with the Base being apathetic or being cut and run Pub purists that want to stay home to teach the Pubs a lesson, by making them lose! It is always a good reminder to the voters how biased the Media is for Dem leftist pacifist socialists.

Sure..."we promise to be moderate" sounds like "the trains are going to nice camps for Jews to relax and get away from the war." Sorry, this smells.

?

The ONLY democrats who have been continually re-elected are from jerry-mandered "safe" districts that have merely become more and more extreme.

It's the extremists (like Conyers, Rangel, Pelosi herself who are lying...... Your assumptions, your statements, your conclusions are not real...

They are lying, and we know it.

But let's not assume that. The Democrats are united by a love of raw power, socialism and an irrational hatred of George W. Bush. But they might be smart enough to damper the last one in order to enhance the first two.

Of course I could be wrong - no one thought Republicans would impeach Clinton, and folks like us all but forced them to (and I was right with them, yeehaw.) But I never thought impeachment of Bush was all that realistic anyway. Impeach him for what? Having bad intelligence? Arguably going too far in securing our nation (NSA wiretaps?) Does the Democrat Party really want to throw a President from office for trying too hard, who immediately admitted the existence of the NSA program?
