Ann Coulter at USF: E-mails circulating prior to her visit tonight)
Posted on 10/19/2006 12:07:28 PM PDT by adorno
Ann Coulter will be speaking tonight at USF (University of South Florida), a quite liberal university. The following are some typical e-mails circulating on the campus e-mail system.
The best way to end Anns nonsense is for no one to show up. Simple as that. Dont bother protesting as that is what she wants. When only her die hard fans appear, and hundreds of seats stay empty, that will be a better message.
The determination and definition of hate speech can be highly subjective depending on who you talk to. I hear of some who felt Michael Moore or Al Sharpton, who were also both paid to speak at USF, engaged in forms of hate speech. Restricting any speech is a highly dangerous road to follow.
I dont think words themselves are damaging. I can only hope that this event inspires the dialog that ULS hoped for and encourages people to become more active in finding solutions to all our social problems and issues.
There is an additional issue here, however, that goes beyond the conservative/liberal divide. Ann Coulter, in many of her speeches (Im being diplomatic here), engages in hate speech. Many of the statements she makes are actually illegal in certain locales due to their overly inflammatory nature. I actually enjoy dialogue between multiple viewpoints, and support many of the people that have been brought to campus, even ones I heartily disagree with. I DO have a problem, however, with my student fees being spent on hate speech without my input on where those fees might better be spent (or my taxes, for that matter). Dialogue is a wonderful thing, but I sincerely doubt we will be seeing any tonight.

I'm sure there will be protesters in an around the forum where she'll be speaking. And I'm sure that most people there will be going to hear her speak her mind, whether they agree with her or not.
I'm not sure I'll be attending, but if I do, I hope to engage some of the professsors and students there, asking them to point out where she's wrong on anything she says.

...become more active in finding solutions to all our social problems and issues. There are no permanent solutions to some social problems.
You can inform people about moral choices and encourage them to "do right" but some will even deliberately choose to do wrong.
The socialist utopia is a lie.

Right! And there are still many people there, at USF, who feel that Sami al-Arian was wrongfully charged and prosecuted.

Many of the statements she makes are actually illegal in certain locales due to their overly inflammatory nature. Bill Clinton publicly supported the prosecution of the Danish cartoonists under "blasphemy laws", which many Islamic nations have. Legal and illegal only applies to what is said and done in America under our legal system.

Oh, yeah, how many of these leftist bozos care about "hate speech" coming from the likes of Howie Dean, John "Vichy" Kerry, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackoff, Nancy Pelosi.... not to mention the USF's in-house terrorist for many years, Sami al-Arian......
"hate speech" is anything that embarrasses the left and shows them up for the raving hateful ninnies that they are.......

Dialogue/Free Speech = Anything a liberal says
Hate Speech = Anything a conservative says
The sad thing is most, not many, MOST of these liberal students will eventually become conservative once they get out into the real world.

I'm relatively local and won't go. Not after she tried to tackle science in her latest book and botched it very, very badly.
