Putin quip on Israeli president sex scandal caught on mics

Wed Oct 18, 8:57 PM ET

MOSCOW (AFP) - President Vladimir Putin's quip on the sex scandal surrounding his Israeli counterpart almost stole the show from his talks with visiting Prime Minister Ehud Olmert which focused on Iran.

Putin, who was speaking seconds after the two leaders made statements at the opening of their meeting at the Kremlin, was caught on reporters' microphones telling Olmert "say hello to your president -- he really surprised us."

Israeli police announced on Sunday that evidence gathered during a weeks-long investigation was enough to charge President Moshe Katsav with rape and sexual harassment of several women, rocking Israeli politics.

Although the recording was cut immediately after the remark, a top official in Olmert's delegation told reporters that Putin then said "we did not know he knew how to deal with 10 women," referring to the number of women who had filed complaints Katsav had molested them.

This in turn drew "roaring laughter in the room."

According to the same source, Olmert replied to his host by saying "I wouldn't envy him if I were you."

Talking to reporters later in the evening, Olmert declined to confirm the details of the discussion, saying that he would not comment on the scandal unless an idictment is submitted against Katsav.

The 60-year-old head of state has vigorously denied the allegations -- the most serious ever leveled against an Israeli leader -- and has so far refused to step down from his largely ceremonial post.

Watch for November 7th action in Russia. I think it will be very eye-opening.

"Watch for November 7th action in Russia. I think it will be very eye-opening."

Can you elaborate on that word 'action'?

Demonstrations, parades, neo-nazis are expected to be out in full force.

Ultra-nationalism.

'neo-nazis' in Russia? Who are they demonstrating for? Are there things going on that the press is not covering?

Russian hate crimes on the rise

" ....Nikolai Mikhailovich Girenko, a prominent defender of minority rights, who was gunned down in his home in the summer of 2004. Girenko, an ethnologist and Africa studies scholar, had dedicated the last 10 years of his life to investigating Russian hate groups that vilify Jews, foreigners and migrants from the former Soviet republics. Girenko's work and expert testimony resulted in the incarceration of dangerous skinhead leaders and other ultranationalist figures -- and his death was mourned by human rights defenders around the world. More than a year later, his murder remains unsolved."

Once the parade was over and the fascists gathered on Slavyanskaya Square, downtown Moscow, it was time for speakers. The biggest hits of the day were “We have an absolute enemy – it’s the USA!”, and “Other enemies – magicians of the Black Africa”.

"Another speaker harangued the enthusiastic audience, “Just like 400 years ago, Russia is being pressured by the reign of Western Evil. This fact of gathering the patriots, when Russia is about to fall apart, is a great miracle.” Another speaker from the Eurasian Union, Pavel Zarifullin, asked: “How long can we handle this evil, these American jackals!?”

Christians don't glorify the USSR, even for a day like Putin did last May, and for a World War II victory celebration. The Russians could have used the Tsarist stuff instead, and called World War II by it's real name, not the Marxist name. ANY sign of the USSR should have been destroyed by Putin, as it has been in Lativa.

Who are you to judge Putin. You have lied time after time posting your picture of him at the WWII anniversary celebration. The veterans had no other uniforms to use, and that is why the uniforms were used.

Christians appreciate the West. Russia has had many chances to join NATO and reform the EU because they are so powerful. Instead, Russia and Putin decide to go neo-Soviet.

I am not Russian Orthodox. That said, one is not a Christian based on living in the East or West. Indeed, anyone thinking because they live in the West that makes them a Christian is going to shaken on judgement day.

Christians don't appreciate the fact that Lenin is on display. Putin could have removed it a long time ago but yet he continues to stall.

Yes, and Bush should have banned all abortions immediately after being sworn into office. That said, Putin has time after time brought up removing Lenin. In doing that he is preparing all the Russian people for that day, which likely will be in the not too distant future.

Christians don't like Putin for supporting every two bit thug and dicatator on the planet.

Most Christians do not like many of the things Bush has done either. Remember, Christians are not a majority in America or Russia. They do not control every function in the government, and neither does Bush or Putin.

I could see the NBP emerging as a very powerful party, because it can ally the Fascists with the Communists. I could see Limonov running Russia by 2010, even though that seems inpossible now.

Russia has seen a wave of xenophobia and hate crimes in recent years, with hundreds of attacks reported, including many on dark-skinned immigrants from former Soviet Central Asia and the Caucasus Mountains region.

"Rights activists say hate groups are emboldened by authorities’ mild approach to prosecuting hate crimes, and say that neo-Nazi and extremist literature is sold freely."

The party believes in the creation of a grand empire that will include the whole of Europe and Russia to be governed under Russian dominance. The party is vehemently anti-American and sees the creation of this 'Eurasia' as an essential counterbalance to American global domination. However, when Dugin left the NBP to create his own party "Eurasia" the NBP diminished the importance of its geo-political agenda in favor of a national one, concentrating on the defense of Russian minorities in the former USSR republics and the opposition to the political regime in Russia. As for Dugin, Limonov denounced his conservatism and submissiveness to the regime

Eventually they will come into the fold with Dugin. As they become more and more fascist, they will focus on security and it will unite them ( against us).

The traditional values invoked in connection with Russia's spiritual security often turn out upon closer inspection to have their roots not in pre-revolutionary tsarist Russian history, but in the Soviet past, and in the Soviet regime's attitude towards ideological subversion in particular.

Funny how these things get all twisted around...
