SALT LAKE CITY -- Governor Mitt Romney's political team has quietly consulted with leaders of the Mormon Church to map out plans for a nationwide network of Mormon supporters to help Romney capture the presidency in 2008, according to interviews and written materials reflecting plans for the initiative.

Oh, the horror!
Big deal. It makes perfect sense for him to do this.
It's a conspiracy, I tell ya! They're trying to take over the world!
Run for your lives!
Didn't Kerry have a meeting with journalists at the beginning of his 2004 campaign? I consider that much more of a problem.
GASP!!!!!!!! RELIGION AND POLITICS!!!!!!!..................
LOL!
"Church officials say they have a position of strict neutrality on political matters and are not supporting Romney's candidacy."
LOL. Thats the biggest load of caca I've read in a long time!
I've seen more truths in Weekly World News.
Case in point about their neutrality: Harry Reid vs. Orrin Hatch.
Uh,, Harry has never run against Orrin.
If you think that the Church is not on the side of Mitt you are deluding yourself. Try again.
I think its a lost cause though, once people get to know Mitt and his many liberal stances in the past, he's done.
Pro gay rights, pro abortion, just for starters.
obviously good candidates do this sort of thing.
he will also have a network of investment bankers and turnaround specialists, not to mention his colleagues from the olympics, and not to mention at least 50 or so conservative harvard grads....
But....as of today (again, just as of today), Mitt is the most conservative candidate of the 3 that are definitely running McCain, Giuliani and Mitt
Definitely running?
No one has even annouced yet. I'd put Brownback, Newt, Uckabee and Allen in that list too.
No question, the biggest problem for the Republicans in 2008 is to find an outstanding, credible candidate.
I think I am fully aware of the problems with Mitt Romney, but I must say that of all the possible candidates out there, he is beginning to look better than the rest.
McCain? Giuliani? Condi? Never.
Brownback? Allen? I don't think they have a chance of making it.
My favorite candidate would be Jeb Bush, but he is probably also unelectable. Democrats can pass office down in the family, but Republicans aren't allowed to. Two Bushes is probably all we can expect.
So, that seems to leave Mitt Romney, unless someone else starts picking up the big mo.
Word to the wise -- Istook, a Mormon, has run the worst campaign ever for Governor of OK and has cost us a chance to take over the Governor's office. He and his Mormon campaign people can go back to wherever they came from because they didn't have a clue about Oklahoma.
After what I have witnessed in the OK Governor's race and with my own state rep who is also Mormon, I have two words for Romney -- no thanks!
The local Mormons have threatened their people if they don't support certain candidates in OK. That did it for me! Not voting for Romney nor anyone else from that group. You can call me any name you want but I have firsthand experience with how they handle a Mormon that doesn't support who they want them to. If I was in my friend's position, I would have told the group to take it and stick it. No one would EVER badger me on who to support!
"The local Mormons have threatened their people if they don't support certain candidates in OK."
Thats a pretty serious charge. Can you provide more details?
By their people do you mean other Mormons or their relatives etc.?
