VANITY: First exposure to CNN in years left me dumbfounded and angry
CNN ^

Posted on 10/19/2006 4:03:38 AM PDT by rlmorel

I do not watch television or read newspapers. So, the last time I watched CNN news in any kind of volume (more than walking in an airport and glancing at it) was probably 10 years ago.

Last night I went over to a friend's house, and he was watching CNN, and I think it was Lou Dobbs doing some kind of forum with an audience, and the graphic at the bottom was something like "ATTACK...on the Middle Class". It was unbelievable...reminded me of watching Oprah or something like that. They had some family on who was driven into bankruptcy by medical costs on a newborn child, and the camera panned to some lady in the audience wiping her eyes...

Then there was a "News" segment, and the first thing was, in big huge letters "THE FOLEY SCANDAL"...the next item was "REPUBLICAN PANIC"...after that it was BUSH APPROVAL PLUMMETS...then it was PUBLIC DISAPPROVAL OF CONGRESS and they showed stats on disapproval for REPUBLICANS in Congress without making any mention of Democrats. All the while, I am watching the little text crawler at the bottom saying things like "US Soldiers Hunted by Snipers..."

I wish FNC would quit doing the "fun" stuff in the mornings. GOD that is so annoying I want news not slaps and tickles, celebrity news ect...man I wish there was a fox headline news. Hell I'd pay extra block fox news and have fox headline news.

Occasionally CNN is on the TV at the GYM. I change it to FOX and no one complains. The only time that I see CNN is at the Atlanta airport. CNN is everywhere, almost like 1984.

Every time I cannot avoid watching or overhearing CNN, I am repulsed. They are even more partisan than they were years ago. I think once Fox took over the majority of cable new market, CNN now more overtly tries to please its liberal viewers.

On that note, a remedy is required.

Is there some device that allows one to FReep anywhere and anytime? Some kind of wireless gizmo?

I've watched CNN International: it's like Pravda, but without the balanced reporting.

My car broke down a long time ago, and while waiting at a grimy little gas station in the middle of nowhere to get it fixed well enough get back home, I was essentially forced to listen to the radio which the mechanics were blasting full volume. Some crazy guy who called himself a "harmless little fuzzball" was ranting about people called ecowackos & feminazis and I thought to myself "gosh, I can't believe this guy is saying exactly what I've been thinking for a couple of years now". I jotted down the fuzzball's name, got my car fixed, switched to the am dial for the drive home & my life has never been the same, lol!

I think more political conversions happen at gas stations than anywhere else!

You're absolutely right and they can't disguise it. What gets me is that they try to act so hip, so American for being commies -- cutsie wardrobe, pop banter, etc. -- no grey Mao suits. But bias, fear mongering and Bush bashing is laid on thick as cheese. Also, most of their commercials are about drug relief for aging boomers -- again fear is the number one tactic.

The only time CNN is worth viewing is when there's breaking news... and only if you can't get FOX. Once the story is out... they go to work bending, twisting and distorting it into DNCSpeak.

Okay, Good. Thanks everyone. It ISN'T just me then. I just could not believe it. I appreciate the responses to my vanity post.

Perhaps I should have said SANITY post...

I guess it is like the Frog in the Boiling Water analogy...and I was the frog who got dumped in the boiling water.

Jack Cafferty (sp?) always seems so ticked off.

Jack doesn't mind contradicting himself, as long as he can bash Bush, as can be seen in this FR thread from last year

CNN: Is Bush Spending Too Much Time on the Disasters? Or Too Little?

On CNN's In the Money today, Jack Cafferty suggested that President Bush is devoting too much time to the natural disasters in the southeastern United States: [snip]

Yet only weeks ago, Cafferty was berating the President for not doing enough. " ...

Jack's negativity can inspire poetry, so he's good for something.

Persnickety Jack Cafferty
Makes me want to laff-erty
Jack spends his time on mindless cavils
Like Bush's mileage during travels.

CNN is a joke. They couldn't do hard news right, they can't do infotainment right, so now they hope Lou Dobbs and others can copy the Fox News model. It ain't working.

I've been stuck on American cruise ships with CNN International as the only -- only -- television channel.

Next time that happens, it is your duty to raise hell and keep raising more hell (getting others to join you) that the ship provide other alternative news stations. Seriously, we need to get vocal!

I was at a sub-average pizza joint in Downers Grove (west of Chicago) that had Fox News on. The entire staff was Hispanic.

Yeah, I got stuck watching CNN in the St. Louis airport a couple of weeks ago. They might as well have Howard Dean reading their stories, since they are just dictating his talking points verbatim.

I NEVER turn on CNN because it infuriates me so much. My parents were visiting and my father has some sick compulsion to watch this nonsense and be outraged over it. He turned on the Lou Dobbs special and we only lasted until the guy whining over having to pay back his college loans.

Been there. Did that. The explanation was that only CNN International's signal was available in the areas where the ship sailed.
