Why Gas Prices Dropped money.cnn.com ^ | October 16 2006 | Nelson D. Schwartz

(Fortune Magazine) -- If the recent plunge in gas prices is the result of a conspiracy by President George W. Bush to help the Republicans retain control of Congress, as 42 percent of Americans believe, according to one Gallup poll, a lot of Wall Streeters wish they'd been in on the plot.
So what really drove prices down - if not an Oliver Stone-worthy scenario involving the Commander-in-Chief, the House of Saud and Secretary of the Treasury Hank Paulson cajoling his cronies at Goldman Sachs to sink the crude market?
By late summer, hedge funds and other investors had poured billions into long positions in oil, gasoline, natural gas and the rest of what traders call the "energy complex," all betting on a replay of the severe 2005 hurricane season that sent prices soaring in the wake of Katrina and Rita. But one day after oil reached a monthly high of $76.98 a barrel on Aug. 7, government meteorologists downgraded their hurricane forecast and cautioned that a repeat of 2005 was "unlikely."
That announcement, combined with the end of the summer driving season and a recalibration of the Goldman Sachs (Charts) commodity index that reduced the weighting of gasoline, prompted speculators to head for the exits even faster than they'd piled in.
The switch in Goldman's basket of commodities had been previously announced by the firm, but that didn't stop the conspiracy theorists.

What happened, Papi Soros not kicking in to CREW and the DCCC?
It costs money to pay off accusers and get docs (real or forged). They're missing a lot of that Creative liberal gay money... I wonder why?
Yet Pelosi, Reid and others are doing quite well; I'm surprised they cant set up companies to feed the beast.

There are a lot of people that believe in Bush's magic wand.
You know, all he needs to do is wave it and the price of gas goes down, OBL pops up, all Mexicans go back to Mexico, the budget is cut in half, and on and on....

The WaPo predicts a gain of "7 to 30 seats". In other words, they don't know what they're talking about. Assuming Allen wins his race, which he will, the Democrats have to sweep all the remaining races in order to win back both houses of Congress.

Me either and I look for them. Where are these "mystery conservatives" that are frustrated and not going to vote Republican this year. It's all a crock, and election day will turn these wannabe pundits on their ears as the GOP holds both Houses and might even gain seats. THAT is the only poll that counts. Then we'll hear months of excuses and accusations of voter fraud.

DNC Takes Out Loan For DSCC The DSCC's optimism about winning the Senate is apparently contagious as the DNC is going to pony up an extra $5-10M for the Senate committee, according to sources familiar with the previously reported arrangement between the two campaign orgs.
While the DNC doesn't have $10M to just toss around to another campaign committee, the DNC apparently has decided to go into debt to come up with the extra cash DSCC Chair Chuck Schumer has been pleading for from DNC Chair Howard Dean. The actual amount of the loan the DNC is taking out is not known as the committee holds out hope they can raise nearly everything they need before the election. But a line of credit has been opened.

Those people who lived through the great depression aren't the same people who wallow in credit card debt. That was certainly true of my parents, who were born in 1915 and 1920 respectively.

Beware that Common Good crap the dems are giving out to churches. Spread the word.
Speaking of churches, I was flipping radio channels the other morning and ran across the Russ Parr morning show on some FM station. This guy had on, I believe, a Reverend and he was scolding him because the Reverend was telling his church to vote for Steele. Russ had the GALL to actually bring up some crap about Republicans giving money to churches and paying off Priests to spread the Republican word. He said that Republicans should keep their message out of the church. What about the Dems that EXIST in black churches around election time?
Then Russ attacked any and every Black Republican that has achieved a high status by a Republican, saying that even some of the better black slaves were given easier jobs.

It really soured me on Limbaugh; so much so that I cancelled my Limbaugh Letter and Rush 24/7 (I was a charter subscriber to both).
By the way, some of the same Rushbots who are today parroting the Limbaiugh line were argueing the opposite when Rush was Bush-bashing.

My grandparents were frugal for a reason. They just stayed in that habit the rest of their lives, of saving their money, and my grandmother in her retirement sits atop a huge pile of cash.
