My grandparents were frugal for a reason. They just stayed in that habit the rest of their lives, of saving their money, and my grandmother in her retirement sits atop a huge pile of cash.

My parents grew up poor in NYC in the 30's and 40's. They had what they needed and ate lots of pasta for meals. Anyway my mom is the same way and always was with the spending. She never had a credit card bill and if she did it was paid off the same day it came in the mail. She always says "I never pissed money".
