Union Leader Calls Santorum 'The Anti-Christ'
POSTED: 6:48 pm EDT October 17, 2006 PHILADELPHIA -- A local union official on Tuesday described Republican Sen. Rick Santorum as "the anti-Christ" on issues affecting working people.
Pete Matthews, president of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees, Council 33, made the remarks during a luncheon speech before union retirees.
Santorum is running as the incumbent against Democrat Bob Casey. Both have been engaged in a hard-hitting campaign that could be crucial for the Republicans to keep control of the U.S. Senate.
"I kind of refer to him as the anti-Christ, but I guess I'm not supposed to say that, but that's what he's about," Matthews said, claiming Santorum lacks a record supporting working people.
Casey spoke at the same luncheon but did not arrive until after Matthews' speech.
A few blocks away, Santorum was announcing that a plan to open a facility for the Internal Revenue Service in Philadelphia had been approved and that it would bring thousands of jobs.
Last month, Bill George, president of the Pennsylvania AFL-CIO, apologized for having said in a newspaper interview that some see Santorum as an Adolf Hitler.
Less than a month before the Nov. 7 general election, Casey continues to lead Santorum, the No. 3 Senate Republican, in independent polls.

Whew pass the meds.
These clowns never define "working people".
That can only help Santorum. The libs tend to overplay their hand by being totally absurd.
This should be seen as quite an endorsement.
If this had been said about a Democrat by a conservative (particularly a religious one), it would be front-page news.
Please to meet you, hope you guess my name...I am a man of wealth and taste.
Good grief. I was shocked to hear this, until I realized this wasn't about this Union Leader:

Which is rather conservative.
Santorum CAN'T be the Anti-Christ because Clinton already has that dishonor (IMHO)
the Anti-Christ?
Sure, if Jesus were a socialist!
I can't understand this. I thought that Senator Salazar (D-CO) clearly stated that James Dobson is the Anti-Christ.
The union man has just leaped on what he thinks is the bandwagon. You know... the one that will convince all those "dumb religious right" people not to vote. After all, they would never support the Anti-Christ, right?
Working people? Why don't they use the correct Marxist terminology: Proletariat. "Comrades" also has a nice ring to it.
Working People=those who walk to the mailbox to get their welfare checks....
I understand why the libs moon bats have BDS, Iraq war, 2000 election, but the level of rancor leveled at Rick Santorum is down right strange.
Probably a sign of mental illness
Gee, how novel! Why didn't he just call him Hitler, that seems fairly popular. And it would work with the rubes who vote for Democrats.
