State Attorney General Bill Lockyer has launched what he calls an "aggressive" investigation into a mysterious mailer sent to Latino voters in Orange County warning them it's illegal for immigrants to vote.
The mailer sent on letterhead from the California Coalition for Immigration Reform warns voters in Spanish that those who do vote could end up in jail. It also says federal officials are keeping a searchable database available to anti-illegal immigration groups that tracks people casting votes.
"It's clear intimidation," said John Trasvina, interim president and general counsel for the Mexican American Legal Defense and Educational Fund. "It's targeted to foreign-born voters, as opposed to newly registered."
Trasvina's group is also calling for an immediate probe, saying such mailers violate a host of federal and state election laws aimed at preventing intimidation tactics.
Yet it's not clear who actually sent the mailer.

Well is it not true that it is illegal for illegal immigrants to vote?
What's the problem, then?
that they arent illegal
I would have to see the letter first. Does it say it's illegal for immigrants to vote or does it say it's illegal for illegal immigrants and non citizens to vote?
The past history of the media makes these valid questions.
Really you cannot make this stuff up.
That seems to suggest the letter was targeted to illegal immigrants.
Mexican Anti-Americanism in America
By David Montgomery
FrontPageMagazine.com.. |.. December 6, 2002
In Los Angeles last year, cars were seen bearing illuminated signs that read F--- you, this is still Mexico. Not just a few cars. Thousands. This is but one sign of the hostility towards the United States that is growing among Mexicans living in this country.
As the number of Mexicans living in the U.S. has ballooned (growing from 2 million to 23 million over the past thirty years), so have the feelings of anti-Americanism among them. While the many Mexicans living in the U.S. are still law-abiding and loyal, there are disturbing signs that anti-Americanism is on the increase. Worse, it is being aided and abetted by the anti-Americanism of native American leftists.
When the Mexican national soccer team came to Los Angeles to play a match against the U.S. team in the summer of 2002, the loyalty of the fans was clear, as demonstrated by the number of Mexican flags waving across the city. Similar attitudes were shown at a 1998 match, with even more repulsive behavior by the Mexican fans. White members of the crowd were jeered at, cursed, soaked with beer, and otherwise harassed. Some in attendance even reported that the United States Marine Band was doused with urine.
The Mexican-American Legal Defense and Education Fund (MALDEF) is one of the leaders in this anti-American movement. MALDEF is a supposed grass-roots organization that receives almost none of its money from the people it claims to support. In reality, they are funded by the Ford Foundation and take their ideological guidance from the anti-American leftists of the National Lawyers Guild. Among other things, they promote free college tuition for illegal immigrants, the lowering of educational standards to accommodate Hispanics, refusal to defend American borders, and the right of criminals to vote in U.S. elections. This is all from an organizational that proudly proclaims itself the premiere Latino civil rights organization in the United States.
The truth is becoming illegal in America.
When the words illegal and legal merge the proper term is Chaos..
Coe said she was "broadsided" on Monday with accusations that her group sent the mailer. Yet she insists CAIR is "clean" and she invited an investigation.
Just a careless typo or a Freudian slip?? (The plot thickens.)
This is disgusting and alarming.

In the 1996 election in Orange County, CA where Bob Dornan lost his seat in Congress, there were thousands of votes cast by illegal aliens. Some came forward to confess after the election because they feared prosecution. Most of the vote fraud was done by Hermandad Nacional Mexicano (the National Mexican Brotherhood), a Marxist organization that somehow GOT A FEDERAL CONTRACT TO "EDUCATE" NEW CITIZENS! They used federal funds to go door-to-door, register illegals to vote, and then helped them fill out their ballots. Oh, and Catholic Charities did their part too, encouraging illegals to vote. I saw this; I was there. I guarantee its still going on.
This quote makes me conclude that the letter was indeed specifically directed at illegals. "Foreign-born" is one of the left's code words for "illegal alien".
Maldef Cair .. peas in a pod
Of course, there's also the possibility that this letter was sent by a Dem operative or supporter or an illegal immigration supporter or just someone who wanted to smear CCIR.
I have no evidence of that, I'm just looking at who's trying to profit from this.

They didn't say "illegal immigrants," they said "immigrants," which happens to include naturalized citizens.
Democrats: "How dare you tell our illegal aliens that it is illegal to vote, after we've been telling them it ok to vote. Just how the hell are we expected to win elections". /sar
