The Missouri Supreme Court struck down the state's new voter identification law Monday that would have required voters to show a photo ID at the polls.
A lower judge ruled last month that the ID requirement was an unconstitutional infringement on the fundamental right to vote. The state Supreme Court agreed in a 6-1 opinion.
The new law would have required voters to show a photo identification card issued by Missouri or the federal government before they could cast a ballot. Voters lacking the ID this fall would be allowed to cast a provisional ballot, but after that, only the elderly, disabled and those with religious objections could vote without one, and only by provisional ballot.
Opponents argued the ID requirement would harm the poor, elderly and disabled who may be less likely to have a driver's license.
Supporters of the ID requirement said it was necessary to prevent voter fraud and increase confidence in the election process.

stupid is as stupid does
The fix is in.
And the dead will rise from the grave and vote straight party democratic.
GREAT. Now all we need to do is go to the cemetary and drum up all the "USUAL" voters in the St. Louis districts. I know, I know, in decades past, these dead beat voters always registered and voted Dem, but hey, we could make a killing if we get to the cemetaries first.
"Opponents argued the ID requirement would harm the poor, elderly and disabled who may be less likely to have a driver's license."
Hmm... Put applications in welfare offices, senior centers and hospitals.
Problem solved. Next?
What would they consider a fair form of ID? I just don't get it. If the U.S. Congress passed a law for voter ID would it be overturned?
They've done it before in St. Louis County.
Of course they did....IT MAKES TOO MUCH SENSE!
Only in America is proving yourself a citizen considered intimidation.
The fix has been in for decades when it comes to democrats cheating elections tactics, but fortunately it has not worked for them in most cases.
Funny how judges deem infringement "owning a photo ID" yet when it comes to infringing on gun laws, it is NOT an infringement to prevent ownership.
We are working towards a day, sometime soon, where there will be no more close Republican victories.
Only three possible outcomes in any given election:
1. Republicans win big.
2. Democrats win narrowly.
3. Democrats win big.
Republicans are on the verge of forever being locked out of close elections.
If the margin is tight, the rats will steal.
The only way that states that are serious about this are going to be able to deal with this is by making State ID's free.
Then the court can't say anything. If Elderly have to leave their home to vote then they can go to the DMV and pick up a State ID card.
Especially in St. Louis.
Carolyn
Does it say anything about appealing to the supreme court? I think the supreme court would uphold it, and if they did, none of these lower judge-shopped partisan judges could overturn a law like this ever again.
So anyone can go to an election place, assert that they are (fill in the blank) and vote? I think banks should be run the same way. "Hi, I'm Bill Gates and I want to withdraw a billion dollars".
Then I don't want to show ID for ANYTHING!! No checkwriting, no Mortgage buying, no loans of any kind, no drinking, no govt. cheese, no air travel!! INSANITY!! Our Courts are full of INSANE IDIOTS!! Or Vote FRAUD HELPERS!
WHO ARE THESE JUSTICES???
