WHY DOESN'T JACK WANT TO DEBATE? REASON NUMBER 21: HE DOESN'T WANT ANYONE TO KNOW HE'S VOTED HIMSELF 12 CONSECUTIVE PAY RAISES
Monday, October 16, 2006
(MONONGAHELA, October 16) -- Washington County Commissioner and Pennsylvania 12th district Republican Congressional nominee Diana Irey -- responding to Jack Murtha's refusal to meet with her to debate the issues -- today released this statement:
"Why is Jack Murtha scared to debate me? Two leading newspapers in our district -- the Washington Observer-Reporter, and Jack Murtha's own hometown newspaper, the Johnstown Tribune-Democrat -- have now urged him to debate. Several TV stations have offered to air the debate, so that the public can tune in for themselves and see the contrasting visions we have. And the League of Women Voters has offered to sponsor and set up the debate.
"Yet Jack Murtha refuses. His official response was, 'My record's out there for everyone to see I've done it the same way all the time.'
"Of course, Jack Murtha is counting on the fact that everyone in the district thinks he's the same old Jack Murtha they always knew. But we know otherwise. As I've pointed out before, if you think the Jack Murtha of 2006 is the same Jack Murtha you've been supporting for the last three decades, you don't know Jack -- and for proof, you can visit YouDontKnowJack.org to read up on the Jack Murtha you never knew.
"As I said last week, the only reasonable conclusion one can reach is that Jack Murtha is flat-out scared to debate me. He knows I will hold him accountable for his record, and for his behavior as our Congressman. And he knows that debating me would be a sure-fire loser for his campaign.
"But just because Jack Murtha is scared to debate me doesn't mean the voters of the 12th District should be denied the information they would have received had Jack Murtha been willing to meet to discuss the issues. So today, and for the remaining days of this campaign, I will offer one reason per day why Jack Murtha is scared to debate me. There are 21 days left to campaign, so I will offer 21 reasons.
"Reason #21 that Jack Murtha is scared to debate me: he doesn't want anyone to know that HE HAS VOTED HIMSELF TWELVE CONSECUTIVE PAY RAISES."

Vote for Irey Bump!
Smooth is right!!! You are Justa Good.....My super tech Son didn't go with his wife to Jakarta and for the next two weeks He will be around to help. Your Guide was all I needed to learn this task...
I got a call in the middle of the week from the RNC asking for a donation. I told the guy that at this point before the election I was sending contributions directly to some of the candidates. I said I was sending money to Diana Irey to help with her campaign since they didn't seem to be doing much to help her. He seemed a bit confused. I said she was running against Murtha in PA. Why weren't they supporting her? Was it because they were afraid of making Murtha mad if she didn't win? I also told him that people from all 50 states were contributing to her as well as our overseas service men & women. I again declined his request and said I would be supporting candidates directly.
I don't know if that was a good thing to do or not, but I tend to speak my mind when I am passionate about a subject.
I expect a higher than normal voter turn-out for this election, particularly in PA's 12th C.D. The higher turn-out will redound to Mrs. Irey's benefit.
All other factors aside...and just fer fun, let's play with some numbers...
Using a 60% turn-out model (I know, but the numbers are "scalable.") with 406,361 registered voters in the district...(last 'official' count.)
A 60% Republican turn-out results in approx.66,643 voters.
A 60% Democrat turn-out results in approx. 133,286 voters.
Counting Veterans separately (18% of registered voters in the district), at a 60% turn-out, that is about 43,886 voters.
At least 75% of Veteran/Military voters will almost certainly vote for Irey.
Keeping in mind that the 12th was re-gerrymandered recently (Since the last Congressional election in that district), and that the Republicans in that district are hearing things things they want and like to hear from a candidate.
Under this model, Irey has between 86,286 and 110,529 votes already in her hip pocket.
Additional votes needed to win: Minimum, 14,286. Maximum, 38,064
To garner 55% of the vote, she needs to add: Minimum, 23,574. Maximum, 47,817.
Voter turn-out is the key.
In consideration of many other factors, however you scale the numbers, barring disaster or blatant and public fraud, she wins with 55% of the vote.
All of that said: Keep working hard to get her elected...and VOTE.
Assumptions:
Republicans there are hard-core and have a candidate they can back to the hilt and without reservation.
Most of the demographic is composed of "Scoop Jackson/JFK/Reagan Democrats...and they don't like what they've been hearing from the incumbent, even if he is a 'favorite son.'
Thoughts:
It is not unreasonable to expect a higher than 60% turn-out among Veterans and Republicans in the district.
Don't dismiss or froget the 'Brendan Loy' factor among Democrats. i.e. The Lieberman Effect.
Additional indicators referenced by RedRover in post #910
Glad I was able to help. Looking forward to your first post! ;*)
I don't get calls for donations.....but I do get mail....I told them, when the wall starts going up in Southern Az I may consider giving to the RNC........Diana Irey won't owe them any favors after this election....Then(we have the biggest RINO of them all here in AZ).
I'm trying to catch up with the past few days comments:
But I just emailed Speaker Hastert and called his office to request support of Diana's campaign. Not holding my breath or anything, but at least I contacted them.
Pinging you to post 939!
