The sleeping giant, called the evangelical church, is about to be awakened by true conservative candidates, who believe in both social and fiscal conservatism. These voters will rise up and keep the Senate in the hands of the Republicans and keep the House in a position of relative political parity. For this to happen, individual candidates will have to take off the gloves and differentiate themselves based on their values, philosophy, and track records. This is not running away from President Bush or national issues; it is an attempt to keep candidates from running against the straw man of its time for a change or change for change sake.
The classic example of this dynamic new strategy is the Michael Steele senatorial race in Maryland. Steeles opponent has tried to paint this powerful African-American leader as an out-of-touch Uncle Tom because he is a black Republican. In addition, he has used all the time-worn, Bush/Republican criticisms we have heard for the last few months.
Steeles response is that he is reaching out to the growing number of black, white and Hispanic conservatives who are Democrats by day but vote Republican on moral values. How is he doing this specifically? First of all, he changed his campaign ads and speeches to reflect his stances on core conservative issues.
Secondly, many supportive evangelicals are supporting Steele with their own outreach campaigns. They realize that they must choose between Michael Steele and an opponent who is the embodiment of everything they dont believe. Ben Cardin is pro-abortion, pro-same-sex marriage, pro-embryonic stem cell research, and pro-amnesty.
In response to the political dangers we perceive, the High Impact Leadership Coalition, which I lead, and the Maryland Values Coalition have created a television and radio campaign which features leading black pastors, known and loved by Marylanders.

Which is one reason for 60 Minutes' segment last night which promoted the book by the former WH twerp who's claiming Evangel's are laughed at by the administration.
Republicans need to run on Reagan conservatism. It is true, if they don't highlight the issues that make them stand out from the Democrats they will lose.
Isn't it a little late in the process to bring out the conservative and values issue candidates? Do we have that many running for election or re-election?
I was sick and tired of reading the negative naysayers and defeatists this morning. This election is not won by these bogus and biased polls!! Media is desperate, so they trot these polls to depress the GOP turnout.
As Rush asked last week: What happens is the Dems lose?
I smell a strong GOP turnout. Media and belt-way folk are in for a November surprise.
Outstanding. Now where the hell are those candidates?
Remember: Conservatives go to the polls Tuesday!
Liberals go on Wednesday!
Tell all your friends.
I am sick of the defeatist attitude also. It's not over yet. I think a lot of people will be shocked on November 8th. And I refuse to listen or read the defeatists any more until after the election. This includes Hannity, Doyle, Fred Barnes, Brit Hume and Drudge.
Some optimists include: Dennis Prager, Rush and Hugh Hewitt. I will only listen to them and read Free Republic for the next 5 weeks - to keep my sanity.
I didn't think that Kuo did his book any good by last night's 60 minutes interview. I'm an evangelical and like Kuo, I've had second thoughts the last few years about the growing relationship about the Republican Party and the evangelical right. But he came out as just naive. I kept listening for his motive and I think I found it when I learned that he was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2003. He was disappointed in the political delivery system of his spiritual beliefs and felt, particularly because he faced a life-threatening illness, he had to do something to get his message across. The political system "failed" him. I actually agreed with many of his concerns, but have learned over the years that a close marriage between politics and spirituality is gonna end in disappointment. If he thought the political right was using him, what does he think about the political left that managed to get his book out a month before the election? He needs to quietly go about accomplishing his goals and let the political and journalist systems go.
IMO, the GOP platform should say: "If you value your freedom, if you believe in national security, if you want your children to live in a world "not" dominated by Islamic radicals, if you don't want your home taken away by eminent domain, then "vote" Republican. It's time to take the offense. Liberal "dirty" tricks need to be met head on.
IMO, the likes of Pelosi, Kerry, Kennedy, Boxer, Feinstein, Reid, spell "disaster" for this nation.
Does "Reagan conservativism" leave out the mistakes Reagan made, i.e. amnesty for illegals?
I loved the guy, but he messed up like everyone else.
Republicans, if they are to win in November and avoid a Pelosi takeover, must quickly appeal to those American citizens (their core base) who still believe that the Founders' ideas, as expressed in their Declaration of Independence and resulting Constitution, must not be overturned by what are described as progressive "liberal" judges who strike down laws protecting life (even life of the child in the womb) and property.
Deeply religious individuals need to be reminded of the Far Left Democratic Party's stand on these ideas.
Even in times of war, these principles become even more important, not less so!
Democrats would like to keep the focus on contemporary issues (Iraq and scandal), allowing them to win votes so that they can return to their primary agendas: promoting more powerful central government and pro-abortion judges.
As stated in my previous posts, Republicans who want to win in November should refocus and remind their voters of two things:
1. Liberal judges who will be be appointed by Democrats.
2. Liberal laws on abortion and other life issues under Democrats.
Protection of life and individual property are fundamental principles that Democrats and the judges they appoint will not secure. History documents that fact.
Thanks for your comments. I changed the channel 2 minutes into his interview.
Evangelicals, hehehaha. Well let see who is laughing in a month. I don't think the President will lose his sense of humor.
Not sure what you mean by this, but if we believe something, our vote will be affected by that belief. I cannot separate my deeply held beliefs and convictions from my politics. From my viewpoint, if one can do that, then they don't really believe what they profess to believe.
John Kerry comes to mind, where he says he believes life begins at conception, but he claims he doesn't want to force his views on others. If he truly believes what he claims (and I doubt he does) then he is complicit in the murder of millions of babies.
Unbelievable! err, not really. These MSM pukes will stop at nothing will they? I think this guy was on GMA this morning too.
Great post.
If those candidates haven't clearly communicated to voters their conservative credentials by now, they ain't conservative.
