They are asking for people to stay off the phone. Circuits are jammed right now. They are asking that people be patient and wait a few hours before trying.

some dept of transportation fellow on now - trying to communicate to the hotels to not send people to the airport (honolulu). they are going to try and clear the people who are already there, and they still have to accept incoming flights.

I remember being on a salescall at Disney Studios about a week after the Northridge quake. A small aftershock hit the building I was in and everyone literally dove under their desks. I sat there in the guest chair, while my client, red-faced with embarassment got up from the floor and apologised for being such a scaredy cat. They had felt the hit from that quake so much stronger than I had in OC.... and they were clearly shell-shocked.

the trigger mechanism for the flush, is my guess. you can go, but you can't flush.

the water pumps are electric

It worked to find the stream address...

Streaming has been very stable - really impressed with akamai keeping it up with the load. This feed was working on a wifi PDA, a GPRS pda, and a RAZR v3 phone. SMS texting is working to most areas, cell voice service is spotty on Maui. Still haven't heard from friends in Kapa'a, but that's so far away from the quake, they should be fine, but I don't think they'll be back in Los Angeles on Monday.

Could be several problems. One without power water pressure may be low or non-existant as the pumps are not working.
Second, have you not ever seen them fancy self flushing toilets? You stand up and the electric eye senses you are not sitting on the toilet and flushes it?
