CNN (simulcasting the hawaiichannel) - this guy at the airport is playing it up. listen to this idiot - "where is the plan to evacuate Honolulu in case of emergency"? what does he think, there is some magic "plan" that allows everyone on the island to just go to the airport and fly away within hours of the incident?

Hi La Dita... my daughter's best friend's family on the big island are all okay. One relative said she feared her house was going to slide down the hill, but everyone seems to be fine.
I'm sure it was pretty scary. I know it seems like forever when an earthquake starts shaking your home.

no, I am serious. I am sure other posters here who might be watching CNN can confirm. they had some guy on a cell phone from the airport, and that's what he was saying.
maybe he attended a recent conference on media relations during natural disasters - in New Orleans.

These are only guesses. I would suppose that power lines are down, cell phones are overloaded, and undersea cables have been cut.
However, I am not an expert on communications, so I will defer to someone who actually knows.
