Son just called. Does anyone know anything?
Nobody by that name.
Apparently the south end of Lahaina has power back, the Front Street south and one of the bar cameras are working.
You know how 1st reports are, but it sounds to me like Kona got it pretty bad.
also report of Killer Tacos roof collapse?
Stay of out water, weird tides, especially in coves.
100 year old sugar mill completely collapses.
It could be because of the few roads.
I just tuned in to a MSNBC and they have a live feed from an affiliate in Hawaii.
They were talking about a collapse of the roof at a Wal-Mart and another department store. Also mentioned many hospitals had structural damage (I think they were talking about the area near Kona, but I came in at the end of the report.)
Nephew just called, they are OK. But they have no power and called here to find out what is going on...
Live feed here is good:

Right...I didn't even think a whole lot of the shake this morning until my Mom called from the mainland to ask how we were and said it was all over the national news.
We don't even have TV. I didn't think it was a big deal until I read here that the Safeway ceiling collapsed over in Kona.
I think we will be OK as long as the Volcano doesn't decide to show some fireworks.
Sounds like some tall smokestacks fell over in a sugar refinery.
ROTFL!!
Im glad to hear he is ok.
From what I am able to gather so far this could have been much worse as far as injuries and fatalities, though plenty of things did break.
No. It's enough to get the full undivided attention of a Californian.
quick, call FEMA
"I think we will be OK as long as the Volcano doesn't decide to show some fireworks."
Whoah, that wouldnt be good. Maybe with each passing hour that threat diminishes. Stay safe.
We were even better than that. We pointed it out the day before Katrina hit when Landreau released a statement to the effect that it was all Bush's fault that they were going to be short on National Guard because of the Iraq war. It was a set-up from the time the storm cleared Cuba, it's amazing the powers that be didn't see the political issue coming.
My sister owns a home 60 miles from Kona. She's home in Pittsburgh now and had no idea until I called her. I had to explain to her what Free Republic is and how the Freepers know everything before it is reported.
