Son just called. Does anyone know anything?
Fox's Hawaiian affiliate is apparently out. Fox is saying it's hard to get info because of power being out and phone system overwhelmed. News agencies off the air. Several landlides.
Is the FEMA office open yet.I want to sign up for my Free money.
We agree on that. Someone at DHS should monitor FreeRepublic for the fastest news.
We had them for weeks afterwards, the largest in the first 24 hours, but the smaller ones went on forever. The stress of it really wears on you after awhile.
KITV reports No Tsunami genenrated.
I think Fox said some landslides are blocking major highways. There's been lots of rainfall, increasing the danger.
6.3 is what seems to be the official "consensus".
jaime colby now saying there were "20 earthquakes". why doesn't one of the producers get control of her. its times like this when the "bubble headed bleach blonde" infobabe concept, falls apart.
Live feed:
Will take a while to restore power.
Conserve water.
Stay home, dont rush the stores..traffic signals not working. (Ray Lovell from civil defense)
Airports reopened.
Any Vulcanologists around? How can quakes effect the volcanoes? Could they open up vents, release pressure? Would it have to be a huge quake in the 8.0 range to do something like that?
are you in hawaii?
How are the troops stationed there doing?
now the USGS is saying 6.5
Haven't heard anything about troops, but communications are apparently a mess.
More like the volcanos effecting the quakes. Each Hawaiian island, from Kure to the big island is there because of a hot spot vent under the ocean with the Big Island being the youngest and more active. Another island is forming east of the Big Island, it still has several thousand years before it becomes an island, but its already named Loihi.
Live Feed:
Worst damage on big island.
Evacuation of Kona hosp precuationary.
10-12 hrs to get power back up.
National guard training this weekend, already there.
Sort of...but it's been outsourced; here's the call center:
KITV: Airports open. State Civil Defense- Significant damage on big island.; Hospital damaged and will be evacuated. Power will be out for 11-12 hours on Maui
