Police Find No Report of a Foley Dorm Incident
Washington Post/Pravda DC Bureau ^ | 10/14/06 | Charles Babington, Mary Beth Sheridan

U.S. Capitol Police said yesterday that they have no record of an alleged incident in which then-Rep. Mark Foley supposedly tried to enter a Capitol Hill dormitory for teenage pages.

The purported nighttime incident has been cited by lawmakers and a key witness in the scandal that involves Foley's interactions with congressional pages and the House's handling of the matter. Unlike sexually graphic electronic messages that Foley sent to teenage boys, evidence of the alleged dorm incident has proved elusive.

Yesterday, acting Capitol Police Chief Christopher McGaffin said his staff conducted electronic and hand searches of files covering several years but found no record of the alleged incident in which a drunken Foley supposedly was detained outside the pages' dorm "I can't find anything that was written, in the way of a report, that would establish that did occur," McGaffin said in a telephone interview. "Having said that, I don't know, maybe it occurred and there wasn't a report generated."

McGaffin said the search was complicated by the fact that he has received no details on when the alleged incident occurred and exactly what happened. "If, obviously, a crime was committed, a report would have been generated," he said.

In a separate interview this week, Terrance Gainer -- who was Capitol Police chief from June 2002 to April of this year -- said he recalled no mention of such an incident during his tenure.

The absence of a police report adds uncertainty to investigations by the FBI and the House ethics committee into furtive behavior that led to Foley's abrupt resignation two weeks ago....

Sources familiar with the investigation say that former Foley chief of staff Kirk Fordham, who met with the House ethics panel Thursday, told members that he believes the alleged page dormitory incident took place...

I'm not inclined to believe anything without evidence.

Doesn't matter if it's true or not, it's the seriousness of the charge that's important.

Fordham needs to provide some proof not speculation or hearsay.

The news report of the incident blurred the probable truth of the incident.

Fordham wants/needs a job and so he sees the Democrats ahead and he wants to do their bidding.

Trouble is, to please the Democrats, he's going to have to make some things up.

By the time he is caught lying, the Dems will have used him enough, will have what they want, and they will leave the lair hung out to dry.

Someone who's been in DC as long as Fordham has ought to be able to figure that out.

After all, someone who's been in DC only as a tourist had no trouble seeing this.

This one seemed just like a rumor to me, I ignored it. At least with Clinton's scandals, there was evidence. This one, the Dems are throwing everything they can, with little or no proof, but plenty of innuendo.

"They ended the November meeting by instructing Foley to cease contact with the Louisiana boy, which he apparently did."

Where did this notion that Hastert was Foley boss come from? Hastert wasn't Foley boss. The voter in Foley's district was his boss.

The notion came from Democrats, who want to nationalize this midterm election and drive values voters away from the voting booth.

I remember posting a week or so ago...that these people are ELECTED by constituents...and it is incumbent on them to be careful who they vote for...

AND, they are also ADULTS..and when an adult, Foley is told to knock it off...and promises to knock it off...what more is Hastert or anyone supposed to do??

Also..The first time I heard about this alleged drunken incident at the page's dorm...was on TV..and it was reported that the representative that is demanding an investigation into the matter just overheard speculation that something like that may have happened...while she was on a conference call with other Congresscritters...

So...it has all been so much ado about not much (considering what other congresscritters have actually gotten away with, and kept their jobs)...

BUT, it COULD be the one thing that tilts the House to the dems...wouldn't that just make ya wanna give up on politics??

Thanks TX. I haven't sorted this yet, but is it more of the cover-up by the pink mafia angle or that it was never real? I'm go read the the thread but thought I'd ask in case you have a clif-note version.

In an Oct. 3 letter to House Clerk Karen L. Haas, Rep. Deborah Pryce (R-Ohio) said a fellow GOP lawmaker had cited "rumors that there was an incident within the last several years when then-Congressman Foley in an intoxicated state was stopped by the Capitol Police from entering the Page Residence Hall."

Has anyone dug into her role in this, if any?

She was the one that I thought was spreading that rumor, that she heard during a Rep. conference call...

But, I am thinking it is a different Congresswoman that is demanding an investigation...a DEM, I believe....but, it seems that our Republicans are ready to join right in with the dems on this one.

I do think this dorm incident will be found to be a RUMOR, nothing less....maybe even a planted rumor to get more salacious "facts" into the MSM.
