Detroit Tigers Won the American League Pennant Today
"How long before Detriot riots"
BEFORE? I thought it was just one slowwwly continuous riot since the sixties. The UWOT "Urban War On Terror".
Life in the "D" ain't easy, but it ain't impossible.
For one thing, it ain't Houston, all filled up with "Nawlin's Castoffs". People around here actually say "Hi!", maybe nod their head in polite greeting once in a while. I lived in Houston for three months this spring...geez louise what a rude, freaked out city!
Yes, Detroit has its share of pinheads inside the city limits, but the worst of the worst are ending up in a grave or a cell. Generally the murders here are "beef" murders, not strangers.
That said, I wouldn't go wandering around the neighborhoods inside the city. But zip through the 'burbs of Oakland, Livingston, Western Wayne, and Macomb counties and you might be suprised how green, lush, and prosperous it is. The center city is NOT the only thing happening here.
(OK...where's my check from the "Chamber of Commerce"?)
I still blame the Pistons for destroying the NBA.
People are just upset that Detroit, for the most part, is not filled with a bunch of sweater vest wearing poof boys. Even our gays and libs are tougher than most!
We work hard at the jobs we do have when the Dims are not screwing up the economy. And we play hard. IN THE PAST, a few nitwits got out of hand, but especially during the last few years, people have been really awesome about celebrating our victories without burning or looting.
So yeah, the cajone-less pansies are scared to death of us...no problem. The "D" is a wuss-free zone!
Yeah, shame on them for turning it into a TEAM game, working BOTH ends of the court and beating the over-rated Lakers not just once but TWICE for championships![/sarcasm]
My 6 sons, living on 3 continents, 4 countries, across 12 time zones, Tiger fans 4Ever! Jerry wore his "Olde English D" cap and T-shirt to games at Yankee Stadium throughout the regular season.
Are you on crack? Well, you're from Detroit, so probably.
But to say that the champions of the 80's were not TEAMS is absolutely ignorant and ludakris.
Of course then the thugs took over and turned the NBA toward physical brutality and away from skill.
Vicarious satisfaction bump.
On behalf of all past and present Detroiters, up yours.
ROFL Outstaters and Detroiters have a love-hate/on-off again relationship, but I wholeheartedly concur with your sentiments, grellis. ;)
The turning point for this season for the Tigers happened during the first week of the season.
One of the veterans showed up Jim Leyland on the field during a game that the tigers lost.
Leyland got up in the player's face IN FRONT OF THE ENTIRE TEAM and said "We are not gonna have that on this team. We are gonna stick together or you will not be on this team."
The rest of the players, from that moment, realized what kind of regime was in charge and what kind of winning atmosphere was going to be nurtuted in Motown.
Theyy have been a solid unit ever since.
Go Tigers!
Yeppers....Texas Ranger fans are pretty much stuck with that....sigh
Are Mickey Lolich, Al Kaline and Denny McLain still playing??
Denny McLain? ROFL As what? Mickey is running fantasy camp. Al Kaline? Don't we wish.
That has been the Yankees Achilles heel the past few years.
And that is why the Tigers will beat the Mets in 6, or the Cards in 3.
They had the lowest ERA in THE MAJORS, despite playing in the league that uses a DH.
They will win. Bank on it.
The Yankees need to trade ARod for some pitching help.
Especially in a short series, where the #1 and #2 starters can start more games with less days off between starts (since it's the end of the season)
That would be quite impressive considering it's a best of 7 series.
You guys talking back and forth about your favorite announcer reminded me of my youth; glued to the dulcet tones of the immortal Vin Scully. I'm happy to report that Vin is still with us; this world will lose a great light when he finally switches off his mic for the last time.
Or, just a realist! :-)
Oops! Meant to say Tigers over Cards in FOUR (4)....
