Thought US Navy and US Coast Guard buffs would be interested, as well as anyone following US Military (particularly maritime) developments.
Fine vessels.

Armed with at 57mm. gun! Those were obsolete before WW2 ended, unless you were shooting at wooden buildings.
Perhaps it is a type and it will have a 5inch (125mm) gun or maybe a 75mm (3 inch) of which the Italians had a good model.
But doesn't seem like much aramament unless you are going to be taking on the local Sea Scouts in their rowboats.

The LCS looks like a very nice yacht. I'm gonna buy one .... as soon as I win the lotto. :)

FYI...more on the LCS with pics...and also on the new Coast Guard cutter.
The old PT boats were similar in scope, but a lot smaller. These will be a good thing for PHIBRON operations, special forces, anti-mining, ASW, etc in the littoral regions and under cover of carrier or other strike groups further out to sea.

If you want to know the real skinny...
LCS 1 has MANY (some very big) problems and is being built just to be built. It is hoped that at least some of its fundamental problems can be fixed in future builds but I think that even that is unrealistically optimistic.
LCS 2 will be the real thing. Even though it is not without sins, it is far and away superior militarily, technically, and even financially. Come future builds, it's superiority will just increase.
Oh well, politics and industrial welfare continues well and strong in Washington.

Anybody find "U.S. Coast Guard National Security Cutter" somewhat redundant?

Thanks for the PING.
The Navy is fast developing their littoral capabilities. I guess if we have to begin patrolling our expanded security perimeter, we're going to need a different kind of vessel to do it.

What happened to the catamaran design X craft? Just saw a show on that on the Military Channel. Did it not make the cut?
It was a scaled down version of the Cat Ferries and seemed like a really cool design.
Thanks for any info.

Looks the
Freedom class of LCSs are going to be beautiful ships.
Ditto the Bertholf class cutters.

National Security Cutter...is this anything like the ship they used to call a "Destroyer"?
