"BOSTON - Former U.S. Rep. Gerry Studds, the first openly gay person elected to Congress, died early Saturday at Boston Medical Center, several days after he collapsed while walking his dog, his husband said. He was 69."

While this is not cause for gloating, it's ironic that he died while the Mark Foley scandal was still on the airwaves.

Another Democrat, former Boston City Councillor David Scondras, was involved in an underage sex scandal (for at least the second time) this month.

Studds was a teacher at St. Paul's School from 1965 to 1969. He wasn't there when John Kerry was a student. But one does have to wonder if there wasn't some scandal there as well.

East Coast voters do have a greater tolerance for sexual scandals. What's striking is that Cape Cod, which was a large part of Studds's district, had been rural, moralistic, and Republican almost forever. Studds's election and his district's turning a blind eye to his conduct marked a sea change in the region's history.

This is eerie. I do not remember much being made of this at the time. Funny how the memory goes.... A 17 year old page? And he actually had sex with him? And then didn't resign? I'm finding this all hard to believe.

You understand that he was a) a democrat and b) from Massachussets. Exactly why is this hard for you to believe?

Congress gave tacit OK to page abuse

--- Indeed.

Sounds like a right-wing conspiracy centered around Studdley's dog named Rove-r.

;-)

"Studds was a pioneer who gave courage to gay people everywhere by winning re-election after publicly acknowledging his homosexuality. He gave people of his generation, or my generation, of future generations, the courage to do whatever they wanted to do."

Translation: Caligula.

BTW, didn't Caligula marry his horse?

No, he appointed his horse to the Senate.

And this Studds geek, a liberal Devilcrat who had sex (possibly coerced, my memory on that is fuzzy)

Not coerced. According to the AP story as it appears on the NY Times web site, "Studds defended the relationship as a consensual relationship with a young adult. The page later appeared publicly with Studds in support of him."

So benign-sounding--- "his husband". They quietly snuck that little gem in, didn't they?

It must be part of the MSM's incremental "boil-the-frog" gay agenda.

One of Massachusetts' worst Congressman died today, he shamed my state, committed criminal acts, and worst, got away with it.
Yet, I am sorry for his family's loss.

Actually, it was covered in the MSM at the time, but there was a counterbalance (moral equivalency) with a GOP Congressman having had relations with a female page ... guess who lost his seat, and who continued in Congress, eventually assuming a powerful committee position?
