Green Arnie goes to big smoke

CALIFORNIA Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger will go to New York on Monday to discuss his landmark law on global warming with fellow Republicans as pressure builds on US President George W. Bush to take a tougher stance on greenhouse gases.

Mr Schwarzenegger will meet separately with Gov. George Pataki and New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg "to discuss the implementation of California's landmark market-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction system," his office said overnight.

Last month, Mr Schwarzenegger signed the Democratic-sponsored Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006, which mandates caps on emissions to reduce greenhouse gases 25 percent by 2020.

The governor, who is running for re-election in November, has been highly critical of Mr Bush's rejection of mandatory caps on greenhouse gas emissions in favour of a voluntary approach.

Both Governor Pataki and Mayor Bloomberg have visited Governor Schwarzenegger in California in recent weeks to discuss the law, one of the world's most ambitious on global warming. Gov Pataki said efforts to reduce emissions on the state level will push Washington to act.

A Pataki administration official said Monday's meeting will focus on how California and the northeast states' Regional Greenhouse Gas Initiative can work together and possibly create an emissions trading exchange.

Good point. Let California, New York and the rest of the states run by ignorant liberals pass all the taxes and regulations they want to pass. That will make the liberals happy in those states and it will drive more industry to states like Texas that don't like high taxes and stupid regulations.

It is a win/win.

His law? The "Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006" was sponsored by the Rats.

Er, never mind.

Here in the People's Republic of New York, we await the annointed Eliot Spitzer. Have no fear that among the business destruction he will rain down will be global warming edicts.

From the article: "... the implementation of California's landmark market-based greenhouse gas emissions reduction system ..."

Market-based? Truly an ignorant statement. Any "free" market would include valuable products along with willing buyers and sellers. "Legalized extortion" would be a more fitting description.

Thankfully, most of these global warming/cooling scares only last about twenty years. There's a good chance that we may see a statistically provable cooling soon, along with better understanding of the effects of solar cycles on the earth's climate. It won't come too soon for me.
