Last night, ComedyOpenMike.com sponsored a show at Walter Reed Medical Center. We had five comedians, including myself, and pop singer Jessica Mellott. This show was for the injured soldiers recovering at Walter Reed, and their families.
It was incredibly fun for everyone.
I opened, and emceed. Then, Jessica came up and did three songs. The crowd fell in love with her.
Every comedian brought their A-game, and were 100% clean. The only complaint I have is that my sound system developed a a problem that caused feedback, and the only way to fight it was to adjust the equalizer.
After Jessica, Brett the Irish Com'Mc delivered 15 minutes of solid Irish humor. His toast at the end of his set was perfect.
Tom Myers picked up the energy. He related to the crowd with material that they could identify with.
Next, Kelly Terranova rocked the house, as the world's only vegetarian NASCAR fan, who would be meat free were it not for McDonald's.
Jessica did three more songs and stole the show. She definately stole the hearts of every single soldier in the crowd of 150.
Headliner, Ron Bender wrapped up the show and left the crowd wanting more, which is how you should leave them. He threw one-liners at the crowd and before they finished laughing, he hit them with another.

If you happen to see these guys performing in your area, please go to the show. Let them know how much you appreciate that they did the show at Walter Reed.
Also, up-coming pop star, Jessica Mellott - http://jessicamellott.com/index.htm, did two sets of 3 songs. She was a big hit. Every single soldier in the place fell in love with her. If you see her CD in your local store, please purchase it, even if you don't care for pop music. Personally, I think she sounds a lot like Allanis Morriset/Shania Twain/and Amy Grant. She has been nominated for a song at the LA Pop Music Awards.
The show was such a success that we are now planning to do another show in January.
It was very moving to see these soldiers and their families. Many of them were weeping at the end of the show because they knew the performers did it out of love. Love for who these soldiers are and what they have done and are doing for our freedom.
As soon as I can work out the editing, I will post a link to the audio recording.
This was our first show, and was put together in less than a month.
Did you have to fly into town for this gig? I'll bet your arms are tired....;-)
LOL!
I live in a suburb of DC, in the Soviet Socialist Republic of Maryland. However, some of these comedians drove quite a distance...up to 200 miles, just to do the show.
A couple comedians scheduled for the next show are coming a distance of 9 hours away, from Ohio.
PING!
(I am sure I missed some WRAMC Freepers. It was not intentional.)
Rodney wants to know if you got any respect.
From Rodney: "I don't get no respect from anyone. The Surgeon Genereal offered me a cigarette."
When we got married my wife told me I was one in a million. I found out she was right!
I saw my psychiatrist. I told him, "Doc, I keep thinking I'm a dog." He told me to get off his couch.
What a childhood I had, why, when I took my first step, my old man tripped me!
Sounds like everyone had fun. Nice that it was clean humor so the whole family could enjoy it together.
It was incredible how many comedians I had to put on a list. Once things got put together they were tripping all over each other to be able to perform.
WRAMC Humor Bump.
8 years and 9 days to go *
* - I took a vow after 9/11 to not smoke cigars again until my 49th birthday. It's not that there is a corralation between cigars and 9/11, just think of it as an extended Lent.
They expressly told us we could not do videos nor photos, but some of the audience brought cameras and promised to send me copies. I will post them when I get them.
Hey, skip the pics we want a recording of it. Anyone for an mp3 file of it?
Thanks for posting, Sensei!!!! I was going to pepper/pester the heck out of you tonight to find out how it went!
Great job! I can't wait to see the video!!!!
I'd love a ping to that.
Thank you for doing the show.
I'll second that. Too many talk about supporting our troops...very few, like trooprally and Sensei Ern, actually take the time out of their lives to actually do so.
I salute you both.
